Well, the first of many.

1) Alphonso Smith - CB from Wake Forest. He was described as the fastest player at the senior bowl with explosiveness and speed. What I loved to hear was that the only thing faster than his legs is his head. Hes a smart corner with speed. The downside - He is short, 5'8" short. He does move Hood into the nickel, and allow us to get Francisco off the field. This pick can go a number of ways.

2) Clint Sintim - Predator Virginia. Explosive, good hands, good pass rusher. Comes from a 3-4 so less adjustment. Seems to be a popular choice around here for us.

3) Chase Coffman - TE Mizzou, Big kid with NFL hands who can't block a lick.

4) AQ Shipley - All American C from Penn State. Incredibly fast getting into his blocks off the snap with good redirection skills. He won the Rimington award (top C). Mayock has him rated higher than Luigs.

5) Lawrence Sidbury - DE from Richmond. Joins Hightower as 5th round Spiders to become Cardinals. http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/a-possible-sleeper-for-the-draft-next-year-129102.html <--see that Thread for my thoughts on him.

6) T.J. Conley - Top rated punter from Walterfootball.com - They had this to say " T.J. Conley had one of the best punting averages the nation has seen in a while (47.4)"

7) Mike Teel - Rutgers. One of the streakiest QBs I have ever seen. I am a Rutgers fan and watch him play, his upside is strong, and with good coaching could be a steal. If not, all that is lost is a 7th.

note - No HB as I feel Knowshon will be gone, and hearing worries about Shady's vision have me thinking we might be better off targetting a FA (Warrick Dunn is my choice). A speedy back who is a short term solution until we are in a draft better suited to fit our needs at our spots. Also, he is a great community guy and someone who if Kurt comes back I think Kurt might be able to convince him to come over.

Nice job...

....we have bigger needs, but if Donnie Brown (RB) from UCONN is there I hope we take him but I assume he will be long gone.....strong, durable, fast, tough.....

I dont think Sintim lasts until the 62nd pick -- he would be an excellent choice at #31.

I'm so happy to say: I know nothing about any of these guys. That is because, for once in my life, I have been WATCHING the Cardinals PLAY football in January, rather than being a Draft geek.

That said, thanks for the post. Good to get started.

General draft thoughts about the #31 slot:

there seems to be depth in three areas in this draft as it relates to where the Cards pick: offensive tackle (and o-line in general), cornerback and the 3/4 de/olb tweener position.

I doubt that Sintim makes it out of the first 45 picks and I like Graham and doubt there is any chance we use a 6th rounder on a punter.

I like Alphonso a lot if he is there at #31. He would go higher if not for his height. He is speedy and likes to tackle. Great nose for the ball and has good hands.

That would be a nice p/u

I am not the best at putting together draft positions. Last season I thought Sam Baker might fall to us.. in the 2nd.

As for the punter, with how many we have gone through in the last 2 seasons.. I'd think we might draft a P if they feel he might be an all pro. As for who and when, I don't know mcuh about college punters so I just looked at what Walterfootball had to say..

I wasn't trying to sound critical at all. Your guess on these things is as good as mine. I think I called like 7 of the 31 picks in the 1st last year, so I am far from an expert on these matters. I loved the Shipley and Sidbury picks BTW.

Last year I was begging management to take Durant Brooks in the 6th, as I thought he was the best punter prospect I had ever seen. Then I watched him stink it up and only keep a roster spot with the Skins for part of the season based on his name and draft position alone.

I love how steady Grahm has been and he has done a hell of job inside the 20 IMO.

I hate the idea of drafting a punter or a kicker. and that goes for any year.

Agreed.

Remember Durant Brooks last year? I believe he was one of the best punters in the history of college football.

First year in the NFL? Bottom of the barrell.

for the first time, I have no suggestions on the draft. God help me I trust Graves with Whis to pick players. It is now more like not "Why didn't we pick him" but like "Wow, I did not know this guy was worth being picked that high or low" LOL. DRC played great for a rookie, Hightower shocked the hell out of me and I think Campbell will really come into his own next season.
