I think that Church dude posts in here, I know I've read that name before. I'm from the you need 3 QBs school, but I don't really consider Lindley to be an NFL QB so what do I know?

lmao. The writer stated only a few sentences into the article why I didn't need to read any further:
Perhaps he is deserving of another chance under the watchful eye of two of the best quarterback developers around--head coach Bruce Arians and offensive consultant Tom Moore (who worked with Peyton Manning for 11 years).

so unless this guy developed Joe Montana, Steve Young, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, or any of just a handful of QBs that can be mentioned alongside Peyton Manning, I'll trust the judgement of our coaching staff over him...

Well statistics aren't everything, and can easily lead people astray. So you want to keep it simple. His college passing percentage indicates his likelihood to transform into an NFL starter is low.

But a lot of things goes into accuracy, especially for any that played under center for us last year. Given that he was a rookie thrown into that crap show I know he is simply a better QB then what he showed last season.

He may be a career backup. A guy who is out of the league anywhere between this year to the year of or a year after his rookie contract is up.

The problems I have with the article is that they forget the simple things.

1. Would any rookie QB that isn't an expected star be able to do anything last year? Probably not even Luck could have salvaged our season, though he of anyone would have had a shot.

2. Inability to finish drives? Hell I watched a team that no matter the QB they didn't have the ability to START drives. So...

3. Again he's not accurate, but his head was spinning and our line sucked pretty bad. His timing was off. He didn't miss guys by that much because he is THAT inaccurate. He missed by that much because he simply didn't grasp the offense to the point where he knew where players were going to be. He didn't. His timing was off, thus his passes were off. Some of this is lack of ability. But most of it is that he simply wasn't ready, and we put him in a no win scenario. In football the Kobayashi Maru test was any QB who took a snap for us last year.

4. Wasted roster spot? We need 3 QB's. I can see a team going 2 QB's for a week or two if need be for some strange injury reason. But you want 3 QB's. Thus this example of 'wasted spot' could be applied to ANY 3rd string QB. I thought the critique was about why LINDLEY shouldn't be on the roster. If the debate is about not needing a 3rd QB, then that belongs as part of a different debate.

5. If Lindley needs to be cut. Who replaces him? This goes back to #4, as obviously Church feels there shouldn't be one. I for one disagree and feel if they want a different #3 I'm ok with that. But who is it? I do feel Lindley should be given a chance with the new staff and behind a better oline and a year of teaching. But if you want someone else, well who? Free agency has come and gone. Draft is over. QB's don't grow on trees. If you want someone else as your 3rd QB, the time to get them is over. That doesn't mean it isn't possible to find one between now and week 1, we do still have June 1st cuts. But the pickings are slim and those that get placed on the scrap heap come at a slow pace. So if we want Lindley gone, then we should have already found a replacement. You don't get rid of him and THEN think about who the replacement is. You find potential replacements first and then weigh whether or not you cut the guy.

I agree 100%

The guy is terrible, worse than the 3 terrible dudes we just cut. :bang:

If Palmer goes down we won't win more than 3-4 games anyway. IMO a pretty stupid reason why we didn't even draft one.

no love for Stanton? Arians seems to be pretty high on the guy. He went out and got him really quick into his tenure as HC. I think we've got more in that kid than most are expecting

I don't care what team you are talking about; if your 3rd string QB is seeing any playing time, then you are screwed.

Lindley should be called Lindsay
He is the worst QB we've ever had.
Max Hall was Prytin Manning compared to Lindsay

Max hall moved the offense max hall had some life
Lindsay tossed at the ground couldn't get a first down managed 3 points in 4 full games and not one TD

he was drafted as a long-term project. By a team with a first-year QB coach, an inept OC and a HC that almost seemed like he was intentionally tanking the season. Behind a line that gave up the most sacks in the NFL. And then just thrown into the fire mid-season. He's far from a lost-cause. Not saying he's gonna be the next Tom Brady by any means, but I don't think last year was any sort of accurate indication of what we've got in this kid. May be good, may suck. But I'm gonna trust the new staff to evaluate him better than I can from watching him get thrown to the wolves as a rookie

Wow, you basically just closed this thread with that.

Other posts are just either spitting in the wind, whining with the coyotes or piling on.

NAILED IT.

You need 3 QB's in this league, even when the 3rd guy can't do squat.

That being said, how Lindley is still on this team boggles the mind.

He is on a rookie contract. He won't be replaced until we draft a QB next year.

Folster said it best. If you're playing the 3rd QB, you're screwed. As a second year player, I think he needs to at least get a look in TC and the PS games by the new staff. If he's cut there's a reason. And if he's not, then the coaches see something in him. There will be a lot of QB's cut, so the team will have options.

I still don't get why they cut Hoyer and kept Lindley. They must really see an upside with this kid that the rest of us don't.

Probably money related more than anything.
Typically you don't pay a third string QB 2M/yr when he is unlikely to play anyway.

I don't think the new staff would have a chance to have much of a book on Lindley one way or the other at this point.

I forgot about the money we would owe him. Bummer.

Money.

Graves gave Hoyer too much of it and my assumption is he wasn't willing to take less to stay on the roster.

They didn't think there was anybody worth drafting I assume.

If we end up with Lindley playing again this year odds are we're terrible and playing for a draft pick anyways. It's not like we passed on a great QB, I mean how bad was the QB pool that EJ Manuel went as high as he did? This was a bad draft to need a QB, that's why we got Palmer in the first place.

Man I can't believe the Qb's dropped in this draft and we didn't draft one- especially Matt Barclay - The eagles are QB rich and were one 2nd retirement from camp fodder.
