If Mel is correct...and the draft goes:

1. CAR: Newton
2. DEN: Miller

The Cardinals pick hinges on the player Buffalo takes at #3 and

Whether the Bengals trade down at #4.

Mel has it going this way:

3. BUF: Dareus
4. CIN: Green'
5. ARI: Peterson

However...what happpens if Buffalo takes Peterson?

Would Cincy take Dareus?

Would Cincy stick with Green or trade down?

If the draft starts out:

1-Newton
2-Miller
3-Peterson
4-Green

What would you do???

a) If no one offers a trade down and you have to pick at that spot...and

b) If you are offered a trade, what is it, do you take it, and what player are you targeting.

I'd love to hear your answers.

IF the Cards are targeting Kolb or Palmer, they could trade with Washington for next years 1st, and take Aldon Smith. Apparently, Parcels has him graded as an OLB.

I would take Dareus and look forward to the second round, unless somebody has a hard-on for Gabbert and would give us a trade that leans in our favor.

Is there any word whether teams are going to be allowed to trade players?

According to the reports, TODAY, no players are allowed to be traded. However, the League is supposed to give teams the rules on Player trades, free agency, etc tomorrow morning.

Which sucks, cause I think the 1st round would have a frenzy of player movement involved today if they could trade players today (i.e. Kolb)

I said it a couple of days ago, I believe if the Cards think Miller is far and away the best player in the draft they may have to move into the #1 spot and/or find away to trade with Denver...

If the Cards take Dareus which they absolutely should in case he falls.

Should the Cards explore trading Calais? Would that even be an option?

Jay Glazer is reporting that Elway, Fox & Co. will opt for Miller because he'll spend a greater percentage of defensive downs on the field than will Dareus.

I believe Glazer (although Elway and Fox could be lying through their teeth) - I believe him enough so that i totally overhauled my mocks and contest entries to have Miller going to Denver (instead of the Cardinals). Yikes!

This raises lots of scenarios. I originally had Buffalo taking Green and Cincy taking Peterson. My best guess now would be that Buffalo takes Dareus, Cincy takes Green and we take Peterson.

But it could just as easily wind up that Peterson is taken by Buffalo or Cincy and we wind up with either Dareus or Green.

I can live with either, but strongly suspect that we'd strongly consider trading down with Tennessee, Washington or Houston (two of whom have been mentioned as targeting Gabbert).

What a mess!

Oh! One other huge rumor - that the Cards and Bulger have already reached an informal "understanding."

So, in summation, the Cards' draft hinges on what happens in the four picks prior to theirs? ;)

Probably but not 100% absolutely.

For all we know, the Cards may have stacked their board 5-deep and all along have planned to grab the apple highest up on the tree.

I do know that Wiz has said that, in later rounds, the Cards will stray a bit from their BPA philosophy depending on who we picked earlier in the draft.

I'd take Dareus in a second. I don't think you can really make a trade for next year's #1 with a team in hopes of getting Luck. The only way to get Luck is to have the #1 overall pick. Whoever has that pick is not going to be trading it. So trading down with a team like NE, Atl, or the like, is not going to have any effect on the Luck sweepstakes. The farthest I would trade down this year is Tennessee, maybe Washington if you can get them to severely overpay, like their #1 and 2 this year and a 1 next year.

It will be my worst day if we take the old run down Bulger. I'm hopping that Paterson falls to us and at that I'm not very excited. Trading down to 11 I can live with but moving way down the board is not where I want it to go.

I hear that the teams will open up Friday business as usual. I also heard that free agency will open up Monday or Tuesday. What a horrid year for this to happen tto us coming off that lousy season. I'm afraid It might be a long, long year!

Please sewnd me my Whiskey!

1. I am fine with Dareus---but he wouldn't be my pick---just because I want a starter here and Dareus isn't going to start over DD and CC.

2. I want to trade down and pick Kerrigan.

3. If we have to stay put I would still draft Kerrigan...or...WR Julio Jones---I love both players and prefer them actually for the Cardinals and what we need to Miller and Green.

4. I am also enamored with RB Mark Ingram...I think he's a stud RB. If we had an OC who knew how to use RBs---I could consider Ingram even as early as #5---but seeing as we are in the dink and dunk to stay---Ingram isn't the right fit.

I've really enjoyed all your posts etc but obviously picking Ingram at 5 would have been a HUGE reach.
