Cardinals | Price to approach team again about Hakim
Wed, 12 Jul 2006 05:55:40 -0700

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports agent Chuck Price plans to approach the Arizona Cardinals again about them potentially signing free agent WR Az-Zahir Hakim (Saints). Hakim has made no secret his preference to play in Arizona. The Cardinals already have WR Troy Walters and undrafted free agent WR Micheal Spurlock who are able to provide similar skills, although Hakim's asking price has dropped.

Can we sign Hakim and trade BJ? I think we have discussed this issue to death before but we may get a player in a position of need like FS.

I'd rather have BJ. Younger, more talented, & more potential IMO.

I would not sign Akim to trade BJ. Now for the right price and playing as the fourth WR that is another story. I would dobt if he would come here knowing at the best it's number 4.

Hakim had his chance. I'm happy with the WR corp. we have right now.

As much as I hate to say this; but I do agree with you on this issue. The grass is not always greener than you may think or want it to be.

I have to disagree with everyone in this thread so far. Hakim has atleast produced in the part time roles he has been given - Johnson hasn't done squat over the last three years and hasn't shown any signs of improvement.

Look at last years stats:

Hakim:
Caught 59% of passes.
34 receptions, 489 yds, 2 TD's and 14.4 YPC.

Johnson:
Caught 56% of passes.
40 receptions, 432 yds, 1 TD and 10.8 YPC.

How long do we wait on Johnson based on his first round status? Seems like every year is going to be the year he breaks out and yet his production has declined over the years! If Hakim is asking for even less money then I REALLY don't see the problem of signing him on the cheap.

You keep BJ again because he is younger, he already knows the OC and the system, you already paid him his signing bonus cash, and if it doesn't work out, you cut him next year.

You sign Hakim to a very low deal and hope that he can do kr/pr.

If the price is right, we need to sign him. Sorry to take everyone out of "Madden mode," but the harsh reality is that around three main players we are counting on will go down with injuries this year- it happens every year- welcome to the NFL. The more veterans who have "been there, done that" we can get on the team, the better chance we have at the play-offs. As of today, Spurlock, McCoy, BJ and Walters have done nothing. That leaves us with two great receivers assuming both stay healthy. The more depth we bring in to training camp the better, IMO.

If the chips fall the wrong way, like they usually do with this team, I'd rather see a veteran starting than a 7th round draft pick.

Just say no to Hakim.....period.

I remember similar posts relating to a QB named Warner a couple of years ago.

Sign him at the minimum plus a 25 k bonus. And may the best man (Walters, Spurlock, Hakim) win. It's probable that only one of the three make the final roster. If it's not Spurlock, he likely makes the practice squad.
