Signed to practice squad according to Urban and Jurecki - which leaves a roster spot open after putting Jaron on IR...hmmmm...

I may be in the majority, but I'd really like to see if Shipley can contribute. Do you guys think he'd be quick-enough in the "slot"(ie; like what the Patriots do)...Or is the "slot" Fitz' alone? One on either side, perhaps?

Thoughts?

Mark :)

Shipley isn't on a roster right now, and I don't think he is quick enough against NFL starters myself.

Trade deadline coming up. Get a vet for a late round pick.

Ok, so we have:

Fitz
Floyd (bad hammy)
John Brown (Sickle Cell Trait)
JJ Nelson (undersized, doesn't fight for the ball)
Brittan Golden (sucks, needs to prove me wrong)

We also have Momah & Ellington that can play WR in a pinch. (unless we're in a 2TE set)

I wouldn't be surprised if we stay with 5 WRs, but if Floyd's hammy is still bothering him on Friday or if Brown's situation isn't under control (leg pain)then we need to bring Bundy to the active roster. I doubt Bundy will help much, but we saw last week how much we can struggle after Floyd went out & both Brown's were out. Seattle double-teamed Fitz & forced us to throw to Golden & Nelson... luckily Nelson had some success.

Shipley is still a free agent so we could bring him in. He seemed like a solid possession receiver in pre-season... even if he's not the fastest guy. Still, the team cut him & went with Bundy on the PS instead & just brought Hubert back to the PS so I have to assume that they like those 2 guys more than Jaxon.

No to trading away a pick for a 5th receiver.

Why not? Do you think a 7th round pick is going to make the Cards roster, much less have an impact?
Let's say a guy like Torrey Smith, who's absolutely useless in SF's offense, could be had for a 7th round pick. He could be very effective in the Cards offense. I don't know his contract status but I was just using him as an example of a guy who could probably be had for a late round pick.

We also have Momah
.

Golden proves you right, not sure what they see in him.

Momah is a future core player. There I said it. I luv'd what I saw in Johnson and I see something special in Momah. I didn't double check the spelling so hopefully you are correct:)

Momah in just few apparance has been solid, especially on special teams, with 2 saving tackle touchdowns and with another one with a forced fumble and recovery
Momah has the speed and lenght to be great special teams player
He is not a good blocker but can be used as wr, maybe some lofty balls should be sent to him instead to john brown or nelson
So I hope he will be more involved on passing game.
Golden put a lot of effort but he doesnt have much to give

You need someone capable of replacing him on special teams more than you need someone capable of replacing him as a receiver... so I don't think this spot necessarily goes to a receiver.

FTFY!

(Seriously... can this really be all mental for him in his 4th year?? I've been wondering whether he needs glasses and doesn't know it. Surely the team has given him an eye exam....)

...dbs
You may be on to something. I remember years ago a Vikings WR, I want to say Jake Reed, had drop issues and then saw some eye specialist that gave him drills to do for his eyes and he had a breakout year. I remember seeing a story on it on ESPN or something. He needed corrective lenses too.

Now they're saying Chris Hubert was elevated to the active roster. We now have 4 small receivers, Can't catch a cold Floyd, and Larry Fitzgerald.

I nearly suggested Smith but his contract is monstrous. 5 years 45 million like 7.6 million against the cap this year 9 next year something like that. I don't know how much of that we'd have to carry but he'd be expensive.

He is a good deep threat type, if he returned kicks it would be a better fit but he doesn't.

Certainly worth a look. See what I did there (-:

The other thing with Floyd is and this goes back to why I never liked the pick, Floyd has a very odd running style. I don't know how you describe it but his feet almost point out instead of forward or in like pigeon toed. He has very short choppy strides. As a result it seems like he's often off balance, doesn't have his feet under him.

The big drop in the OT it looked to me like he dropped it because he lost his balance and he was more worried about that and staying in bounds and didn't get his hands up fast enough. He's great on balls in the air but for a big strong guy he has never been great after the catch and i think it's the way he runs. Look at that play earlier in the game where he caught like a crossing pattern going to the offensive left, several of us commented on it on the game thread. He kind of stopped and then tried to slide diagonally upfield and went down, it really looked like if he'd just kept running full speed after the catch he had a chance to split the defenders and keep running for awhile. I don't think he took a dive( a couple of guys suggested that) I think he just has a weird running style which makes cuts like that hard for him without slowing up.
