I asked him about it on his blog, asking if the Cardinals simply don't care about character any more. this was his response:

He had a second chance after pleading no contest to stalking. He blew it. Plead no contest to a DV incident.

I think if a young man commits assault, pays his debt to society, is contrite, and becomes a model citizen, then I can maaaaaaybe get behind giving him a second chance.

When that same person screws up a second time, with a second female, I don't think they deserve a third chance.

For what it's worth, the dude is just a P squad player. Most P squad players are there to get beat up by the starters in practice, so who knows? Maybe they brought Rainey in there to exact some sort of symbolic consequence so he can get beat up too.
