it's the combo that I like. means they SHOULD be able to keep adding at least one more impact player in FA. not that they WILL, but they should and i'l coast on the hopium of this move for a little bit until it runs out.

Yes. I'm still hoping to see Monti add help at RG, DT, ILB and WR via FA.

Signed edge rusher Josh Sweat (4 years, $76.4 million, $41 million guaranteed)
Grade: D

Analysis: This is such a Cardinals move. They missed out on the crown jewel of the free agent defensive line crop – Milton Williams – and instead overpaid for an edge who is a solid player, but is not going to inject fear into opposing linemen.

Sweat can both rush the passer and defend the run at an above average level, so he’s a useful piece, but the Cardinals needed a game-wrecker.

I fully believe Sweat was a product of a dominant defensive line, as he didn’t get nearly the attention of most standout edge-rushers since Philly was so good everywhere else. The Cardinals’ defensive front is substantially worse, and Sweat’s effectiveness will be affected by the move.

The market for Sweat clearly was not super hot, and the Cardinals made a mistake here after missing out on Williams. The smart move would have been to trade for Trey Hendrickson, who is leaps and bounds better than Sweat despite being 30 years old.
I think he will be basically alone with this take

I would have personally liked Reddick due to the pure pass rush but Sweat is a more well rounded player (rush/pass).

Not a superstar but we needed at least a solid/consistent Edge and we got one.

Sweat had to be nabbed now. Too much interest in him. We can still add FA edge after the draft. Ideally we get a young guy or two in the draft too fill out the room. Can't spend all the money in one room. This was the stud at edge. Nice to get a top talent!

New #AZCardinals edge rusher Josh Sweat's $19.1 million APY puts him 15th in the league. Has played no less than 16 games each of the last four years and has racked up 33 sacks in that stretch. Will turn 28 years old shortly. Back with Gannon who can maximize him.Well done.

8 sacks per year is not elite by any means but much better than we have today.

8 sacks in 2024 (tied for 27th in the NFL).

The hope here is the JG can get the most out of him...maybe to 10 sacks/year. I can't see much more than that.

I think a lot of people were higher on Milton than Sweat. Sweat did not have a very good 2024 season. Where I disagree is that the Cardinals needed to do something to upgrade the EDGE room and if Sweat can get back to his 2022 numbers...he earns this contract. My hope is that the Cardinals aren't done upgrading their front.

It's also not that hot of a take. Trey is obviously a better player than Sweat. Sweat could struggle if the Cardinals don't add more talent. I disagree on the D grade. It's a solid B move IMO.

I have no idea what we will get from DRob. Anything we get there is gravy.
He definitely didn’t show a lot in a limited late season role. What I was most disappointed in is he didn’t really show any explosion at the snap

Kyle is not very objective when it comes to the Cardinals.

Asked a number of people at the Super Bowl/Combine if Josh Sweat could regain his double-digit sack status in Arizona:Dverwhelming response: "If anyone can do it, it's JG."Sweats best season (11 sacks) came under Jonathan Gannon in 2022.

Geez Johnny, asking your mom and dad what they think about Josh Sweat isn't really newsworthy.
