I've been telling everyone he was considered the best player in this free agency. He was the Eagles 2nd best DL player.
Cardinals got bad juju signing DT in free agency. I think most of us still got scars from Jordan Phillips and the batch signed last season

I think a lot of people were higher on Milton than Sweat. Sweat did not have a very good 2024 season. Where I disagree is that the Cardinals needed to do something to upgrade the EDGE room and if Sweat can get back to his 2022 numbers...he earns this contract. My hope is that the Cardinals aren't done upgrading their front.

It's also not that hot of a take. Trey is obviously a better player than Sweat. Sweat could struggle if the Cardinals don't add more talent. I disagree on the D grade. It's a solid B move IMO.
Sweat and Browning will both struggle to live up to their contracts if we don't get some inside push.
We have already seen Darius start to command a double team towards the end of the season...Nolen or Grant next to him could make a huge difference in our overall pressure ability.
Adding Hendrikson into the mix would be huge.
I just don't want to give up 47 in this draft when we need so much defensive help...and an OT,... but I have come to the conclusion I would give this year's 3rd and a 2026 2nd to get Trey

Signed edge rusher Josh Sweat (4 years, $76.4 million, $41 million guaranteed)
Grade: D

Analysis: This is such a Cardinals move. They missed out on the crown jewel of the free agent defensive line crop – Milton Williams – and instead overpaid for an edge who is a solid player, but is not going to inject fear into opposing linemen.

Sweat can both rush the passer and defend the run at an above average level, so he’s a useful piece, but the Cardinals needed a game-wrecker.

I fully believe Sweat was a product of a dominant defensive line, as he didn’t get nearly the attention of most standout edge-rushers since Philly was so good everywhere else. The Cardinals’ defensive front is substantially worse, and Sweat’s effectiveness will be affected by the move.

The market for Sweat clearly was not super hot, and the Cardinals made a mistake here after missing out on Williams. The smart move would have been to trade for Trey Hendrickson, who is leaps and bounds better than Sweat despite being 30 years old.

Nah. This is about right.

You save your crazy big money for your homegrown superstars like McBride.

You don’t even blink an eye & “Sweat” out giving up pick #47 for one of the NFL best pass rushers if that gets him in a Cards uniform.

I never understood peeps reluctance to giving up a high pick in order to get one of the NFLs best! And at a premium position too. Make the move it helps the defense from day 1 & there’s no guarantee from a rookie 2nd rounder he contributes as a rookie especially early on. Just saying

Sweat is a good, to really good player -- but not a great one. Thats ok. Free agency is all about paying good players like they are great ones. He instantly becomes the Cards best pass rusher.

for pressure overall - plenty of teams have had solid sack numbers without a dominant pass rusher. We will see if the Cards can get to that place.

Like earlier posters: finding someone who can threaten the inside -- and hopefully that is Darius Robinson -- on passing downs will be critical

Especially when we would leave Trey McBride starving for his piece of pie
How is he starving for his piece of pie? Isn't he currently under contract with the team?

The team has already said they want Trey here and he has said the same. I am sure his deal will be re-worked/extended soon.

While I tend to agree, Hendrickson is now on the downside of 30.
He could be effective 5 more years or he could fall off halfway through next season.
If I'm gambling with a premium pick I would rather gamble on a guy that's 21

I think every Cardinal fan would. It would be like putting JJ Watt and Eric Swann on the same line. Can you imagine Hendrickson, Grant, Robinson and Sweat on the same line! Playoffs babbaby
Unfortunately Robinson didnt show anything to be considered a key piece of the front seven
