Winston is still a top 1/2 RT in the NFL and never gets injured. I'd say that is much more valuable than Massie and his "decent" ability or Starks and his completely vanished ability.

That top half RT received $1.015m from Seattle.

Clearly $$$ wasn't the reason he's no longer in AZ.

Good point.

I'm guessing that Starks was signed for much less than Winston was willing to settle for.

When they signed Winston the Cardinals, much like the Seahawks this season, were looking for a guy that they could plug in as an immediate starter. This year the Cardinals were looking for, and wanting only to pay for, insurance.

How many teams is it now for Winston? 4 in 5 years?
I'd say that is because his true strength is Run blocking in a league that has been marginalizing the RB position. However, his pass pro was much better in 2nd half of season last year.

It is not clear at all. It seems to me that Winston overvalued himself, and like most older players when they find out that teams are not willing to pay what they expected... they then sign with most anyone for less money as the season is about to begin :)

Good to have some experienced depth at OT.

That's kind of nonsense. Bradley Sowell has started some 12 games at OT. Nate Potter has started 5-6 games in the NFL. Both guys are third-year NFL players.

I expect that we want some more size, particularly at the backup LT position.

Some concern about Winston holding up long term. RT @LordRichardWV: Speaks volumes about Cardinals' dissatisfaction with Winston's play.

This might have something to do with it.

Interesting, you think its nonsense to sign a vet with 10 years experience. But you feel keeping Sowell who was the lowest rated OT in the NFL last year and Potter( a bust) make good sense.

Interesting. In BA's interview, twice he was sure to mention that 'you give young players a chance, but when you're not sure they can do it, you go to veterans for depth.' It sounds like he's taling about Sowell. He said he's really happy with Massie this year. When asked about Winston last year, said we weren't sold we even had a RT last year. Says Starks was brought to bring depth for both sides - build a roster where injuries shouldn't matter. Starks is competing with Potter and Sowell as a swing. It helps he already knows BA's system.

I don't think K9 thought it was a bad idea as much as experience was not the factor :)

Max Starks and Alan Faneca would've been great to have.

Eleven years ago.

Why? Just keep Potter.

I think it's more an indictment on Potter. I never could see how he garnered any hype a two years ago, and some wanted him starting last year. Starks is going to be a veteran insurance policy off the bench. He's also probably likely to be more in line with what the Cards are looking for in the locker room. Winston being elected head of NFLPA suggests that he may have been a bit of a clubhouse lawyer.

This may be true: Winston got the Pete Kendall treatment.
