Coker isn't really the kind of name congruent with the nfl substance abuse policies. Just too dang easy to envision Johnny Football saying, "Hey Coker, can I get a dime bag off you?"

With just one year of starting duty under his belt (and on a team full of superstars, at that), Coker is a bit of a gamble but the physical traits are there to develop. He will have to show significant improvement in his accuracy overall to develop into a starter in the NFL, but his size and experience in a pro-style offense could earn him a realistic shot at making a roster.

It would not surprise me if he beat out Barkley.

Soooo glad we didn't spend a draft pick on a QB this year and rooting for Coker to beat out Barkley for the 3rd QB spot. Not that it really matters or will make a difference in our year or future success.

good pick up and costs nothing. We will most likely chase QBOTF next year no doubt.

If he can fix his release mechanics of slapping the ball, followed by a slow wind up, he might not throw too many interceptions prior to his career ending injury from leading with his head and shoulders on runs.

This is a very good UDFA signing.

I liked him last year because he showed a lot of heart and was savvy on top of that. He's a guy who executes under pressure.

On the other hand, he's never impressed me with his arm. He got the job done at Alabama but he would throw 20 to 30 picks next if he had to start his entire rookie season.

In these recent college QB crops, there really has not been much to harvest, just a bunch of weeds which end up being labeled as flowers so to speak by the media because the position is so high profile. Why not bring in a guy from a national championship team who actually has better accuracy (which means still mediocre but should give one an idea of how bad the quarterback prospects have become for the NFL) than a lot of guys who went before him. The guy is undrafted and will not cost us much and stands about as much chance as the crap shoot that is the mid round drafted guys in my opinion... and it appears we have also signed Phillip Rivers' brother, at least he might give us some goofy faces for preseason entertainment lol

Prototypical size, can throw the deep ball, athletic enough to buy time in the pocket and occasionally make the D pay with his legs and from a pro-style offense.

What's his main flaw? Average accuracy coupled with decision making skills on his progressions?

Much more athletic, than what I expected. And he does have a strong arm, but I have no idea about his accuracy. But if you're talking about an UDFA, he seems to fit the bill. Will his potential be enough to overcome Barkley's experience? And while I have no idea, I'm looking forward to what the more knowledgeable FB guys think.

He's just a camp arm. The same as Sims was last season. I doubt he makes the team.

Agreed...just posted on another thread. This weed (Coker) has as much opportunity to develop into a flower as any other QB taken 5th round or later.

I really wanted Cook or Cardale but happy we didn't end up with Dak, Kessler, Sudfeld, or any of the others.

Odds are against him but I really don't know what Arians thinks of Barkley or how he and Coker will practice/play during camp/preseason. To me, Coker has the same chance to make the roster as any QB taken 5th rd or later and we didn't have to use a draft pick. That is good value.

Throws off his back foot often. Amazing he can get the power and accuracy he does with that. QBBOF (QB Backup of the Future). He certainly has a better body and arm strength than Barkley. Not sure if he has the quickness and brain.

I was thinking along the same lines although I couldn't remember the kid's name. He had a decent pre-season, but these guys are just majorly up against it.

Seems harsh to say but by this time next year I'm sure most of us will have forgotten this guy's name too.

I'm glad the Cardinals brought in a QB to compete with Barkley and the price is right.

This. These 2 will definitely be battling it out for the 3rd string. Both virtually cost nothing. Hope they (or one) tear it up and become a QBOF for the Cards. Never know

I don't know. This kid is big, strong, and has an arm. He is 14-0 as a starter and led Alabama to a NC. That has to count for something. This Cardinals team would be good with a QB that plays within himself and avoids mistakes. I think Coker can do that.

He is an interesting pick up. Well worth it.

Good low risk signing. If they can do something with him there could be a big upside. If not, no big deal. I noticed he has "happy feet" sometimes in the pocket and if they could fix some of his mechanics? Could be interesting.

With those stats right there, I am surprised he didn't get drafted.

I like Coker a hell of a lot better than I liked Logan Thomas coming out of college. Yeah, he probably won't be a long term QB answer, but he has a better shot than most UDFA and late round QBs we've had in the last decade. At least he's a leader.
