Apparently they weren't as thrilled with the "pass rush help" we got in the draft as some fans were.

In fairness when you see what Clemons signed for it's pretty clear neither us or the Bengals were expecting him to come in and be a dominant pass rusher. Both teams were looking for experienced help, and Clemons IS that.

He's not a great player but he's a better pass rusher than some of the guys we've been playing regularly in the past.

I don't think this means we aren't happy we picked Pace, I think it just means we recognize we could use MORE help besides Pace.

And suprise, suprise - they didn't get him - but of course they didn't really want him right? We are the bengals.

Graves is getting spanked - time and time again. And yet, there are those that once again will claim to be the voice of reason and spew what you so appropriately stated, "...but of course they didn't really want him right?"

Failing to sign players like clemons and Robinson is very much a missed opportunity on the part of the Cards. How much? Only time will tell.

He can't be as stupid as everyone depicts him on this board.

No one can.

If he fails to sign a veteran wide receiver then I'll join the "he's the dumbest mfer I ever saw" group.

Frankly I wouldn't have offered Clemons and his crappy attitude five bucks, but the fact that they even considered it is unsettling.

It's like one coach said about former ABA player (and convicted felon) Reggie Harding......"He's the kind of guy you only consider bringing in if you're desperate".

But how intense was this? A call to his agent and ESPN may put us as pursuing Clemons... He doesn't fit the profile of the players brought in, so I have my doubts how much we chased him.

Clemons actually made a visit toward the beginning of the Free Agency period. It didn't even make the media.

Ed:

I read the article and I didn't see anything in it regarding the Cards "Trying" to sign Clemons. I read that they were talking to him, but that might only mean that he was calling them and bugging the hell out of the Cards for a job.

IMHO, you may be reading a little too much into the article, however, I will gladly stand corrected if you have "Inside info" that the Cards were really after him.

Graves is getting spanked - time and time again.
This and the other instances where we couldn't sign a player has the distinct aroma of a rookie manager's need to obtain approval from his bosses and colleagues before he can make a decision.

I'm beginning to suspect that no moves get made until a concensus is reached among Mr. B, other B's, Mac and Graves - and that, because this slows the process, we're missing out on some deals.

If this is causing us to miss out on Duane Clemons.....I don't think it really matters that much. He really wouldn't make us any better.

Seeing that Clemons is a three-year starter in KC with 35 career sacks, I don't think that it's anything to sneeze at! If he had signed here, I think he would have seen serious playing time. But, I'm not missing him.

Why did KC just up and cut him? Was he making alot? I know that they drafted some d liners, but he must have been doing something wrong to get cut before June 1.

Maybe Alphaman would be able to shed some light into this question...

But he started all 16 games, and only got 2 sacks last year.

I don't honestly think he is really any good.

I'm not saying that he's Bruce Smith mind you, but he could contribute. He may have had a down year last year, maybe it was due to his responsiblities within the KC defensive scheme, or maybe he has lost it. I dunno...If the Cardinals didn't push hard for this guy, I doubt he was anywhere on their radar screen.

Like I said though, I'm not missing him...

Oh, Ok.

Jim O said he came in early in the offseason, so the Cards probably weren't that interested.

All he did was take a physical. No workout, no media conference. I think it was "feel each other out" type thing.

So the team didn't think too much of him from the way it sounds...

Judging from the time that passed from his visit and his signing with the Bengals, I would think that you are right.
