Suppose the Cardinals do the following:

(1) Trade L.J. Shelton to the Bears for their 2nd Round draft pick

(2) Trade Duane Starks to the Patriots for their 3rd Round Pick and a swap of 5th rounders.

(3) Trade Raynoch Thompson to the Ravens for their 5th Round Pick

You are the GM...within reason...who are the 6 UFAs you sign (with only ONE major money signing) and who are the 9 draft picks?

Here are my predictions:

UFA's

Major: RT Kareem McKenzie (Jets)

Minors: QB Kurt Warner/G David Dixon/TE Utula Mili/DT Chris Hovan/DE Derrick Burgess

Re-Signees: CB Renaldo Hill/DE Pepi Zellner/RB Troy Hambrick

Draft:

1-RB Cadillac Williams, Auburn

2A-CB Corey Webster, LSU

2B-S James Butler, Georgia Tech

3A-G/T Rob Petitti, Pittsburgh

3B-G/T Claude Terrell, New Mexico

4-TE Matt Jones, Arkansas

5A-S Sean Considine, Iowa

5B-CB/PR Darrent Williams, Oklahoma St.

7-MLB Zac Woodfin, UAB

TRY IT...What are YOUR selections?

I would love to see Matt Jones in the 4th but I think there is a pretty good chance he will be gone by our pick in rd 3. I only like Jones if DG thinks he will be our TE...not WR..not QB.

I also don't think Sean will last anywhere near the 5th.

I should add that the ONLY reason I listed Johnson over Warner is that Warner apparently expects $4M/year, so that prices him out of the Cards' market....

I would love picks 1-5a but Marlin Jackson is definitely not going to be there in rd 3...Matt Jones is also unlikely. Good Job though!

As a HOMER you know I would like Matt Jones. I am not sure he will be there in round 3 but if he is I take him. Sure hope we sign Warner as I think he is the best we can hope for. He has some football savy and can see the field and his brain does not cramp up.

Hey, Hartwell is coming to town tomorrow. That's the only guy I've heard about so far that I'm actually excited about. No love out there for Ed?

It's possible a team could save a roster spot by making Matt Jones both a TE and a backup QB.

Interesting idea...

All this talk of Matt Jones at TE? Are you forgetting that the TE has to block? I'll admit he's a helluva size/speed combo, but I've seen nothing that makes me think he can hold his ground against a DE or LB. IMO he's a legit WR project and would be lethal in red zone jump ball situations, but a legit TE?

Ok, I'll play.

Ken Lucas CB

Kurt Warner QB

Keydrick Vincent OG

Marcus Pollard TE

Hartwell LB (Ok didn't expect it, but I love that we got him here visiting)

Thats all I would sign, and I don't know if we could get them for the 15 mil we have earmarked for FA.

Draft
1. Derrick Johnson LB
2a. David Baas OG
2a. Ciatrick Fason RB or JJ Arrington RB (whichever is available)
3. Matt Jones TE
3a. Brandon Browner CB (after his slow 40 he may be available here)
4. Albert Means DT
5a. Darren Sproles RB (hope he's here)
5b. Some big OL
7. Some fast WR

I'd move Wells to RT, and plug in Baas and Vincent at Guards.

I like this scenario a lot - throw in a trade for either Bennett or Henry and this would be the greatest offseason of all time - even somewhat affordable as well - might have to nix Pollard though.

Well with losing Stark's salary (plus any we gain from trading Clement, Thompson, and Shelton), and a little creative contracts with the above I think we can sign all 5.
