it shouldn't be a huge loss but Davis was starting to come along nicely.

aw, fer pete's sake.

I actually think this is going to be a pretty big blow to the defense.

That really sucks.

We are now down to 3-OLB's and none of them are under 30 years old.

Vince Young is going to run around them like a cone drill.

Again, I say we either go 4-3 to get Calias out on the edge, or use him at OLB in passing situations.

Does it say when or how he hurt his knee?

Darn I like that guy. Amazing what kind of production we've been getting from late round draft picks.

Now at least we know why we signed Monty.

He'll be back for the playoffs, which is the most crucial part of it.This injury is very common in the NFL.Since he had surgery already. We just see how fast of a healer he is.

Maybe Boldin can give him some of his MOJO?:D

Wow. The preseason fears about linebacker depth appear more valid by the day. I wondered why Byrd was cut instead of sending Nelson to the practice squad. Now the move makes sense.

Bad luck for Davis, though. I thought he was really starting to play well.

Nice thought, that may be what happens. If my memory serves, Monty is better suited as an ILB, Dansby has played both positions for us.

Now that I think about it, Dansby isn't worth the money teams will throw at him (much like 80% of free agents), but damnit, he is a versatile LB who can do a little bit of everything well. I hope he will consider staying with the Cardinals.

The problem, though, is that the rest of the regular season was a crucial learning period for Davis. We watched as he improved every week. Had he stayed healthy, I fully believe he would have started being a major contributor rushing the passer in the playoffs. Now? I doubt he has an impact this season. He really needed the time to develop even more. Hopefully he can come back and contribute this season, but I don't think it's very likely. Next year, though, I expect extraordinary things from him.

1) Beisal is strictly an Inside LB, IMO.

2) We can always bring Harrington up from the PS.

Always a caveat with that statement. Somebody may pay Dansby big money to play outside in a 4-3 where he has been a terrific playmaker as opposed to a steady but unspectacular ILB in a 3-4.

A sack in each of his last two games certainly does suggest he was starting to make an impact.

Obviously we would all have preferred that Davis stayed healthy. His time on the sidelines while he heals won't be a total waste. Take a step back, regroup a little, and keep on learning. He now has real game experience so he will get more from watching the game then if he hadn't played at all.

Dansby has not played both positions for us. 4-3 OLB is not the same as 3-4 OLB.

Dansby needs to stay in the middle where he has the best chance of containing Young. If you put Dansby on the outside he will not only be easily taken out by a OT or TE he will not even come close to containing Young when he runs to the opposite side of where he is lined up. Keeping Dansby on the inside gives Dansby a better chance of running Young down to either side of the field.

His best three years as a pro have been with him playing 3-4 ILB.

As a 3-4 ILB he has far more tackles, has more tackles for loss, more pass defensed, more INT's, more forced fumbles, more fumble recoveries. The only thing his 4-3 OLB career has over the 3-4 ILB career is sacks. So that's one thing our of 10 that he did better as a 4-3 OLB compared to 3-4 ILB.

As an 3-4 ILB he has been far more of a playmaker then 4-3 OLB.
