A win is a win I guess but there's no way this game should have been this close let alone go into overtime.

The Good

A Win-
As the old saying goes, I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty. Well, don't get much uglier than this.

Chris Johnson-
When he got the ball he was somewhat productive. 4YPC. Not bad for his first game back.

Red Zone Defense-With the exception of the first drive, the defense clamped down when it needed to holding the Colts to a FG when a TD would have been a back breaker.

HB-He came through when we really needed him to although I'm a bit concerned with his coverage ability or lack thereof.

JJ Nelson-If this kid can consistently catch balls down field, it will ease the pressure over the middle but this was his best game as a pro with 5 catches for 120 yards and a big TD.

Jaron Brown-He, too, had a solid game making some big catches.

The Bad

The Offense-
Statistically speaking, the offense did pretty well. 389 yards total offense is what's keeping me from putting this under ugly.

Pass Rush-Yes we got 4 sacks but a couple of those Brisset held onto the ball too long and didn't throw it away. But otherwise he had weeks to throw passes out there. Had his receivers didn't have a bad case of skillet hands the Colts would have blown us out.

Officiating-Again, beating a dead horse but it amazes me how much 7 officials miss and when they do throw flags, they're ticky-tack. And 2 weeks in a row the officials couldn't figure out why they threw flags.

Carson Palmer-If it weren't for the fact that he threw for over 300 yards he'd be in the ugly territory. But the guy, sometimes he looks like an all pro and sometimes he looks like a 3rd string rookie.

Phil Dawson-Someone remind me how BASK thought this guy was a better option than Cat?

The Ugly

Preparedness-
I'll never understand how a team can show up so unprepared. The first half this team was sleepwalking.

1st Colt Drive-Using their 3rd string QB, Brisset drove the Colts down field in a drive that would have made Peyton Manning proud.

Cards First 2 Drives-2 drives, negative 6 yards.

Red Zone Offense-This has been abysmal these first 2 weeks. How many times over the past 2 weeks have we gotten to around the 5 yard line to either come out with only a FG or nothing at all?

Offensive Line-This is a train wreck, oy. But we do have key players out and banged up but it's obvious Iupati and Veldheer are done.

Well, next week we have Dallas(and I don't feel bad that next week will be nearly a home game for them because right now they're in Denver and it sounds like they're in Dallas) and if we play like we've played over the past 2 games against them we're going to lose 55-14. Is the season over? If this keeps up, yes but there's plenty of time to right the ship as it were. I just want to see this team play with some fire in their bellies. Today, from what I saw, they played like they would have rather be somewhere else. Perhaps winning this game might light a fire under them.

Well Dallas doesn't look too good right now so I doubt they score 55. They are getting dominated

Elliot has zero yards rushing

Dallas is very beatable if you can shut down their run game.

Not sure our line is capable of that though.

Iupati and Veldeer done at age 30?

Iupati is getting injury prone, and Veldeer is surprising - normally you come back strong after finishing the year on IR with a non leg injury - but he looks worse. Could be the move to the right, so it could be that the passion is gone (or both).

Ugly: winning a game that will ultimately be a Pyrrhic victory that keeps us from drafting our choice of the QBOF.

Now there's a reference you don't see enough but it's very apt to describe this game. Not sure I agree about the pick though.

Harry, you don't see this team winning 5-6 games to put us out of reach of a QB? I do. It's a time-honored cardinals tradition to be mediocre-bad but never atrocious enough to get that no-brainer QBOF. There are a lot of bad teams out there that will win 4 or fewer games that either a) could take a QB (Jets, Browns, Niners, Jaguars, Cincy, Bills) or will require a kings ransom to get their spot to draft a QB (bears and Texans). That's potentially 8 teams that could win 5 or fewer games this season.

Really, 2nd game?!
Dude we were mediocre last year. We lost more talent in the offseason than we added. Our already old team is a year older. We looked terrible last week. And we had to take a horrible Colts team on their recently acquired third string QB who just got SMOKED by a mediocre Rams team to OT to eek out a 16-13 win. What land of illusion are you living in???

They're finding their way ahead. The offense is in big time adjustment mode with the loss of DJ. They need to find a way to establish a running game consistently. It was good to see some WR's step up, namely JJ and JB. They're going to need to contribute weekly as well. Coaches utilized the double TE package with some early recieving results and at least attempted help chipping on the outside rushers. This is a work in progress, but someone needs to light a fire under Veldheers butt. Iupati gets a pass for a week, but needs to return to some semblance of the former player he was.

They have struggled with Det(a mediocre team) and Ind(a horrible team). What makes you think they will beat Dallas. There is no chance in hell the way they are playing that they will beat, or even come close to beating, Dallas. This team is so unprepared and it feels like they could careless about the game or football(zero heart).

It was the Colts home opener, they had some pride after getting smoked the previous week.
OK, and lets at least have a home game this season before we jump to conclusions about the whole season already. D has a chance to carry us with some youngsters contributing. O is concerning yes. But there are plenty of playoff teams even, with glaring deficiencies also. Lets let things play out here before throwing in the towel.

Or it could be much ado about nothing. Every player is prone to injury in a crash sport, particularly those who do their work head-to-head at or near the line. And, of course, Veldeer is still adjusting to the right side on Sundays.

Yup! No chance in Hell we could beat the team that got past the overrated Giants and got smoked by Denver.

We will play our best game of the season next week when we play Dallas. But, that does not guarantee a win necessarily.

Another Bad/Ugly, our inability to cover the TE. This is why Dallas is going to pummel us. If we can't shut down a 3rd tier TE like Doyle, how do you expect us to shut down Witten?

Ouchie, does it make sense to draft a quarterback when the offense is in such a shambles. A good defense, OL, running back, and WR was enough to drag Andy Dalton to the playoffs for three straight seasons. I think that regardless of where you draft, if a QB you like is there, you probably should draft him. That said, if you're going to start targeting QBs, there may be too many holes on the offensive side of the ball to think that's going to solve your problems.

I do look at our offensive situation and wonder how a young QB would fare in it. Personally I believe they will re-sign Gabbert to be the new Stanton, and draft a young player in the first three rounds. I think receiving weapons can be developed in, but signing Todd Bowles will be a big boost for the defense. Adding him along with some pieces can help buoy the team while a QB develops. Also, improving the line with better players is always a must. The issue is that we either don't know how to pick good linemen or don't know how to coach linemen. Neither is great.
