High on the list of "uglies" for me in the past two games is giving the equivalent of 16 first downs through penalties. Only Oakland is worse.
Just watched the NFLRewind of the first half. the Defense the Cardinals played on the Redskins TD drive before the half is among the worst I've ever seen in an NFL game.
3 yard run, 20 yard run, 3 yard run, 33 yard dump off pass to RB,11 yard run,
Pass Interference, and then a TD pass to a TE without a Cardinal in the same zipcode.
The Cards looked like they were the Redskins scout team.
Hey, Kolb lit it up against the same Redskins secondary (plus Hall) that they ran out for their 2nd preseason game. So there's that to build on.
Speaking of secondary. What is the deal with Hamza Abdulla? Every time I see the guy in a game he's blowing up some opposing player. Does he also blow up coverage? Or is he playing in the nickel packages and I just haven't seen him.
He's just a special teams player. I don't think he has much more coverage ability than Wilson does, and he's not a former 3rd round pick, either.
Are you kidding? We have to improve 2 fold just to get to awful.Giving up 8:30 minute drives to opposing offenses doesn't help our TOP either. After our 2nd INT that the offense turned into a TD the D gives up an 8:15 minute drive to a Wash FG.
Next possession the Cards keep the ball for 4:10 which isn't bad. How does the Defense respond? By giving up an 80 TD drive in just 6 plays.
After we score to go up 21-13 what does the Defense do. Gives up a 13 play TD drive to make it 21-19.
The Redskins had the ball for 12 plays to open the friggin' game.
We just can't spin it any other way. Our Defense is awful.
We're excessively pass happy which causes our TOP to be terrible and puts more pressure on our defense that frankly can't handle it.
A good dose of running the rock would cure most of what ails us.
Everyone knows we're pass happy this allows them to unleash ridiculous pass rushes.
Two things.
LEARN HOW TO EXECUTE A SCREEN PASS... "I think I'll be long dead before any Cardinal team ever consistently runs a good screen pass"
RUN THE BALL.
Beanie averaged over 6 yards a carry on the Redskins but only had 14 carries, he should of had 20 minimum.
I realize we might be short on guys to give him a rest but come on man, run the damn ball, that's what's letting the pass rush go bonkers on us we pass too much.
This is because Whiz is an idiot. It's been his M.O. since day one. He'll run the ball a few times but the first time we gain only a yard, no gain, or minus a yard, he ditches the run completely and passes every down.
So does Manning, Brady, Rivers and Rodgers & Brees to some extent.
so let me get this straight, it's not the players, it's not the coaches. either we won yesterday and i missed it, or you're saying we lost because of global warming.
The problem stems from the lack of execution of few players, but not total units. Levi Brown is a huge liability at OT. That is a fact. But you can't say that the entire offensive line was terrible, but our QB, RB, and top WR were great. It doesn't make sense because without adequate line play as a unit, these players would not have had the opportunity to be great.
The same goes for the defense. The scheme is solid, but Adrian Wilson and Joey Porter make it unsound. Porter can't rush or drop into deep enough zones and Wilson can't play assignment football which causes breakdowns in coverage. Our corners didn't' player terrible and neither did our inside linebackers. IN fact our defensive line did pretty well until they got worn down.
I disagree with that. Our defense was getting abused from the opening snap. A big part of the problem is the scheme as I said before. Haggans,Docket,Campbell, and Porter with those wide splits is just gift wrapping long runs for the opposing offense.
