You just contradicted yourself. We drafted the Hightower kid way before he should have been (probably would have gone undrafted), and we took him because we needed a RB.

I didn't contradict myself. I never said the Cards took him out of need. Obviously, they genuinely liked the kid. I guess if you want to call the coaches big, fat poopy-pants liars you can. But, they obviously don't care what we think or they would've taken somebody you and your draft mags would approve of. THAT'S drafting for need.

EXACTLY!

I feel like we're watching a real NFL team make picks for once. If you are trying to address needs on Day 2 of the draft, like we've done a lot in the past, you might as well get ready to pencil in a 4-12 record for the next season.

No doubt that these picks werent need picks whatsoever.

He broke the BPA rule on YOUR board.

We could agree that we could take 20 different people and come up with 20 different draft boards, right?

Well, considering Hightower broke the BPA rule about as much as it can be broken...

Bah, you have clue as to where he was ranked on the Cards board.

Just because one guy on the message board stated that he may have gone unfrafted doesnt make it so. Mel Kiper a smuch as bonehead as he is gave good reviews on the kid and liked the pick.
Mayock had Timmy as one of the top 5-6 still available at the time he was picked.

Unless he graded out for the Cards higher on their board than other prospects. Sure, it may not have been BPA for most draft publications, but we can't be sure that he wasn't a consensus BPA for our scouts. There's a reason that the other "BPAs" dropped.

I'm not sold on Hightower either, but let's not say that he's abysmal until he hits the field.

With all our injuries on the d-line you can never have enough of those dudes. Lindy's has Harrington as the #1 D-end when it comes to "intangibles"....their words:

"More guts than glory, but that's the way Harrington likes it. He's a "first to arrive and last to leave" type and never stops hustling."

I don't know how much of an impact the guy will make on the field, but fans will love him off of it. I know A&M football pretty well, and that describes him exactly. Again, I've often thought of KVB watching him play. He never, ever quits on a play and he is smart.

Yeah, I guess Hightower wasn't a need pick. Gee, I really expected the coaches and GM to come out and say 'well, we screwed the pooch in not getting one of the long list of RBs, so we felt we had to hurry up and grab our next best rated one. We definitely picked for need.' Yeah, that's exactly what I expect them to say. Of course they won't come out and say they made a reactionary pick, but they probably did (I can't say for sure).

It's amazing the amount of people willing to stick up for this as a BPA pick. Seems like a lot of you people thought a punter would have been BPA right about now. I think the homerism is just seeping out on this board right now. Hightower? Hahahahahaha.

Why can't you wait and see what he does on the field before you rip on him.

I was guessing you had been hitting the sauce. Can't say why now.

Oh, I gotcha...Posting While Intoxicated. I was like, 'what the heck is he trying to say...is Mulli drunk?' :D

Yeah, drunk off Sundy's win! Good job...now that relegation is out of the question, go lose the rest of your games ;)

To me, it looks like we plan to dump Okeafor or Berry, or both, before it is all said and done for the final roster.

I don't think that either should be worried for this season, but one of the DEs drafted will probably learn Berry's position at some point to hopefully at least be a competent back up for when his triceps go out.

I have to say that there isn't one player in all of our picks that really make me say "i am so happy that we drafted him" but in reading about these guys i do think that there are at least 3 guys who have the potential to be starting players on an above .500 team. DRC and Campbell have a very high ceiling and they aren't being counted on to step in and start right away which is huge. Doucet looks to be a competent receiver and had been rated as high as a mid first round pick. I can't say much for the DEs nor the RB cause I haven't really followed them, but I am interested to see what happens with that monster that was drafted in the 7th round. His size is enormous, he sounds like a mean kid and if someone can light a fire in his belly he just may be a decent o-lineman. While these guys may not come in and shine right away, I really do believe that there are going to be three competent starters to come out of this draft with in 3 years. And that should be viewed as a success. Now RG just needs to be sure to sign them all to 4 year contracts with an optional 5th.

I finally was able to track down an old roomate who is a Richmond alumnus to get his say in this matter. This guy follows UR sports like a lunatic. I'm still getting grief from him when his 15 seed Spiders knocked out my 2 seed Orangemen during March Madness almost 20 yrs ago. His take on Hightower:

- Great balance, great vision, great attitude, very good hands. At times a runaway freight train, but somehow enough wiggle to avoid the big hits.
- Hits the hole with such confidence that you just know he won't be touched until he's gained 3-4 yds.
- In the open field, he has a hidden gear. Based on his measureables, he should be caught from behind. But he DOESN'T. He's run away from CB's that are faster on paper.
- He's tough as nails & isn't afraid of contact. His boyhood hero was Walter Payton.
- Believes his career will be better than McFadden's, & will rival Stewart's & Mendenhall's. McFadden will get hammered playing for Oakland. The worst match for his talents. If Stewart stays healthy, he will be great & Mendenhall will also be great because the Steelers know how to run the ball.
- Will be one of the top 5 steals of the draft. BTW, also thinks that Doucet & Campbell were great picks.
- Lastly, my buddy is a diehard Cowpukes fan & is very happy that the Cardinals are no longer in the NFC East. Thinks that Whiz will be a GREAT coach & the Cardinals will be scary on both sides of the ball.

I'm starting to think the Cardinals may have Timmy targeted for the third down back replacing J.J. Everything I read suggests he is a decent receiver out of the backfield who is a willing blocker with decent size.

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. I know we heard some praise from the RB's coach about JJ who does have the "best" speed amongst the group. Shipp has been a very loyal soldier but has the biggest salary (except Edge). Shipp just hasn't been the same since that injury and some would argue that he wasn't the answer anyways. I'm putting a nickel down on Shipp to be released at some point this year.

Re: Shipp.

I agree, and I think they should do it sooner than later... to give the guy a chance to hookup with a new team.
