I've thought about this some more, and I've concluded that this must be exactly what the Cards want. Josh Rue is their third attempt to fill this roster spot with a rookie free agent, after bringing in first the long-departed Phillip Doolin from Arkansas Pine-Bluff, and then J.P. Comella from BC (who's done little to impress).

It seems like they're looking for a cheap back-up to Hodgins, who can either catch or block if called on, and who'll play a lot on special teams. Otherwise, this signing makes no apparent sense.

Any other thoughts?

I watched him and man they guy does a very good job blocking... I think he is a keeper, even if its for special team blocking only.

The guy was the sloppiest thing I had ever seen carry a football during drills when I was up at camp! FWIW!

D. Anderson mentioned his good blocking that led to the 82 yard run vs. the chargers. Seems he hit his man there.

Can sombody confirm this who actually saw this in the game ??

Bush probably is gone.Does anyone else think that main reason he is here is because he is Plummer's buddy? With PLummer gone can Bush be far behind?

Where did that come from? All reports I've ever heard suggested that the coaches like Bush a lot and that he's a lock to make the final roster. He plays 2 positions - coaches like his versatility.

Other than the concussion, did something new come out in the news?

Rue made a decent (not great, in any fashion) block on the long run by Anderson.

Anderson made some good reads off the blocks to get into the open field.

I agree with you Jeff, I think Bush is pretty much a lock to make the team. He has played welll and IS versatile. I have no idea where this speculaton originated other than in someone's imagination.
There has been no indication of any kind, that I am aware of, that would suggest Bush doesn't make this team.

The guy had absolutely no footwork at all. He tripped at least twice during the rope drill and couldnt even do it properly.

Then he funbled at least twice while johnny roland was slapping at the ball.

He just looked lost compared to the other RBs! granted it was his first practice but I cant even begin to explain how bad his footwork was!

Well, I have to agree with you... Sounds pretty sloppy!

Hopefully, some of his negatives come from not being with a "first-rate" college program and having just made it with athletic ability. But who knows....? I'm just hoping he's a diamond in the rough.

CL:

Josh Rue might've been shaking off the rust that comes from spending a year out of football. He was declared academically ineligible before the start of the '02 season. Previously, he'd started every game for Duquesne from 1999 through 2001.

This guy's something of a throwback. Although he's nominally a FB, Rue has returned kickoffs and has been used as a pass rusher on defense. He's lined up as a fullback, running back, H-back, tight end and as a stand-up rush defensive end (with seven career sacks).

Rue sounds like a project, but offers an interesting mix of size, speed (6-2, 245, 4.7) and skills. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on the practice squad.

In that case, Rue - too much upside.

MJ was saying that before the Cards might carry 4 RB,1 FB.

w/ Prentice and Scobey not stepping up, they might keep 3 RB, 2 FB.

Are you kidding?

Bush is a very valuable player to this team. He is the 2nd TE and will most likely be the 2nd FB as well.

He made a nice kick out block on the 82 yarder and he made a great block on Anderson's 26 yard run.

Coach Mac called Rue "interesting" and many believe that he is a prime time candidate for the practice squad.

By the way...Cards scout Steve Keim found him too.

Coach Mac calls him Kanga...as in Kanga-Rue.

I hope they keep Rue. To me he is simply put - a football player!

And if the Cardinals do cut Rue, the Rams will pick him up before you can blink.
