Cards Cuts Announced

The Cardinals announced Sunday that the team has released the following eight players: wide receiver Chris Collins, wide receiver Fabian Davis, kicker Matt Fordyce, defensive tackle Nate Hobgood-Chittick, linebacker Isaac Keys, quarterback Chris Lewis, wide receiver Derek McCoy, and linebacker Justin Smith.
The Cardinals currently have 71 players on their roster, including four NFL Europe League exemptions. All NFL rosters must be trimmed to 65 (excluding NFLEL exemptions) by Tuesday at 1:00 PM (MST).

It does seem like the WR's didn't get much of a chance....guys like McCoy that we picked up on waivers when....last week?

I'm sure the improved play of Poole and Kasper against the Raiders helped cause their demise.

So if I understand the above statement, we have 71 players, but 4 are exempt -- meaning we currently have 67 players vs. the 65 counted players as of Tuesday. There will be 2 more players cut by Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.?

I am a little (not much though) disappointed that Fabian Davis got cut. I watched him through college and he could be a solid player eventually. Has tons of speed.

Oh well. No big loss, but I think the play of Kasper and Poole pretty much secured Davis's fate last night!

No surprises. I think Lewis will be pulled back for the practice squad if he is not picked. The others were cut not because of game play but they did not impress at training camp or in the small chances they had in games, but mostly in camp.

Chris Lewis was an embarassment at QB...


Why would they want him as practice squad? Didn't I read a Denny quote once that said he didn't believe in "camp bodies", he only wanted people participating that had a chance to make the football team? Lewis couldn't make an Arena team
Edit.... nevermind, I looked it up, that was Jack Del Rio that said the "camp body" thing.... but he was a Denny Green protoge

After each preseason game, I've been posting a recap on the BRS relating observations/evaluations of each player on the roster.

Since it's impossible to see every backup on the TV screen, I've made the notation next to their names: "Invisible or DNP."

Then later, I've color-coded in violet, the names of the players cut the day or two after the game. In just about every instance, the players cut were "violet players."
