Cardinals | Team has some interest in Collins
Tue, 21 Mar 2006 21:36:05 -0800

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals vice president for player personnel Rod Graves said the Cardinals have spoken with agent David Dunn about his client, free agent QB Kerry Collins (Raiders). Graves said the team will look at their draft possibilities and compare them to Collins and Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington, who the team also has some interest in.

Cardinals | Team has some interest in Harrington

The Associated Press reports Arizona Cardinals vice president for player personnel Rod Graves said the Cardinals have some interest in Detroit Lions QB Joey Harrington, who won't return to the Lions. "We have considered both of those (Harrington and Kerry Collins), but we're going to weigh that against draft considerations as well, and see where we come out," Graves said. "There's certainly no opposition to looking at Joey Harrington."

I like it. Collins I would view as a backup only, Harrington would be a sign that maybe they think he could be a QBOF.

Harrington is nothing but a back up QB. If they think signing him is the key to there QBOF search, Then i dont want any part of this

K.Collins would be a nice fit. Has a big arm and would be a great back up to Warner

None should have anything to do with drafting a QB if thats what they want to do

Anyone with substantial playing experience is sufficient as a backup. A for QBOF, Collins is too old and Harrington hasnt shown enough. We are not a rehabilitation program; Id rather draft someone fresh.

Man, if we signed Collins and drafted Cutler, WOW!!! A damn fine quality backup, and a two solid pocket passers to mentor the kid. I like!

I'm guessing whichever QB shows up with the right attitude will get signed to back up status.

The thing is, either one of the guys WILL get playing time this year and probably start 1-2 games minimum, it's not like backing up Favre or Manning. So I would think one of these guys would look at that as an oppurtunity.
That being said, I am way more comfortable with Collins, Harrington seems like a Josh clone, the Lions got rid of him and signed Josh...although Millen is an idiot...great, I just confused myself!

I'm down with them both for a back up. IMO Harrington has a lot of potential upside. He is young, had a great college stats and can throw the ball downfield. With some good coaching(Warner) and his young age he just might have as good a chance of learning the game than a Cutler or Young. Another reason to sign Harrington it frees up a draft spot. We can focus on other areas of need using the BPA theory.

I don't like either QBs but would rather the Cards pick up Harrington. Moreover, I hope the Cards look to draft a QBOF and then take a veteran backup QB after the draft.

Collins is not reliable and stinks without a FORMIDABLE O-Line and exceptional WRs. I've see Collins on several occasions throw the ball up for grabs after the O-Line breaks down.

I'd rather have McCown than Collins, anyday.

I wouldn't view Harrington as a QBOF. I'd view both Harrington and Kerry Collins as veteran backups to Kurt Warner. (Kindergarten time for Harrington is over).

Since we all know that Warner is no spring chicken, his backup (whomever it is) would have the opportunity to succeed him. Whether or not this would be in competition with any QBOF we brought in would up to the QBOF and how fast he develops.

At this point, the team needs a backup. Sign one of these guys and worry about their future later.

Harrington omg no...

I'm not saying Harrington is going to come in here and light it up but there has to be some factors considered. That Detroit franchise is a mess and there is alot of divisiveness on that team. No leadership, no accountability and very little support form coaching and management. Sounds like us a few years back (i Hope). I almost look at it like plummer leaving here to go to a more stable franchise in Denver. There is a reason he was drafted where he was...

Maybe guys like Fitz, Boldin and vets like Warner and Edge will help his curve.......couldn't hurt.....

I did watch Harrington rip us apart last season . . . Collins would be a good signing too. Both are better than Navarre.

I think Harrington would make a great backup to Warner. My concern is that if the Cards went after him, they'd think that he might be their guy AFTER Warner's gone, too. Then we'd languish without a quality QB again for another 4 years or so until they figured out he's not a leader and we've blown one helluva opportunity with Boldin and Fitz now in their golden years.

Collins would be a very good backup for the next coupole of years, and I don't think even the Cardinals could delude themselves into thinking they can get away with not addding a young QBoF with him backing up Warner.

I like a Warner/Collins scenario IF at #10 the Cards could get Young. I wouldn't be as excited about Cutler, but if that's how it went I wouldn't be all that upset just a bit nervous. Collins would be a capable and good backup to Kurt IMO.

Harrington seems to be either a) immature emotionally or b) Ryan Leaf lite. I was intrigued by the Cards signing him but after the way he acted (apparently) with Martz' in Detroit I would be very disappointed if he came here. Plus, his numbers in Detroit were worse than McCown's here. But then again Detroit has the worse record in the NFL the past 5 years so it's hard to tell how much was Joey's fault. I'd still pass on Harrington.

Harrington could definitely get a look with us. He might just need a change of scenery. He sure looked all world smoking us time after time.

Oh god, I predicted this midseason that our QB next year would be Collins. I was thrilled when we signed Warner again but now we're looking at Collins as a backup I'm nervous. He's the prototype Dennis Green signing, big strong arm, underachiever who Green thinks he can resurrect in his system. I have no doubt Collins could put up numbers throwing to Q and Fitz but in the end he's just good enough to get you beat.

i like both of them. i wouldn't be disappointed if the cardinals get one of the two. if both qb want a chance to start then the cardinals are the right spot for them.

i like harrington because of his youth. i believe who ever said that their wasn't any leadership or disphline in detriot. you have a bunch of young players on offense in detriot and no one to look up to. i believe that harrington can learn from the veterans on the cardinals team and succeed with the cardinals.

i like collins because he been there and done that. he led his team to a superbowl and playoffs. he is a winner. his stint with the raiders should be excuse because that organzation is just plain screwwed up right now. you have an owner that won't let his coaches instill displine with the players. instead you have players going over the coaches head to the owner to get what they want. of course davis let the players get what they want.
