OT - Badger is released and TE - Ben Patrick is brought up from the Practice Squad.

Also Wilson, Warner, and Morey Practiced today.

Dansby, Gandy, and Fransisco did not practice but it was Wiz idea to hold them out until the main Wednesday practice no matter what, so we shall see their real prognosis on Wednesday.

All from Urbans blog.

Thanks for the update Joe. Glad to see Patrick on the team, I think Whiz is getting really tired of Pope's mistakes. Also, I was under the impression that Dansby and Francisco were still out for another week after the bye. Did I miss something?

We still dont know if they can practice. 3-4 weeks is the usual time frame for a sprained MCL. Wednesday would be about 2.5 weeks so I wouldnt be surprised if they at least practiced on a limited basis.

Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has elevated tight end BEN PATRICK from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster and has signed him to a two-year contract. To make room, the Cardinals have released guard/tackle BRAD BADGER.

Patrick (6-3, 252) was the Cardinals seventh round (215th overall) selection in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Delaware. He led all I-AA tight ends in receiving during his senior season in college where he collected 64 receptions for 639 yards and six touchdowns. He was named an All-Atlantic Ten first-team pick in 2006 while also being selected as a semi-finalist for the John Mackey Award given to the nation’s top tight end.

Patrick spent training camp with the Cardinals and was released on September 2. He was re-signed to the practice squad on September 4 where he has spent the first eight weeks of the season.

Patrick will wear jersey #89.

Maybe he's coming along nicely now that his hammy is healed. That hampered him all through mini-camps and pre-season. I know we were all excited to get him in round 7.

It would seem so. That they signed him to a two year deal is significant, the Cards staff must like the progress they are seeing from Patrick.

What this tells me more than anything is that Gandy and Levi look to be healthy

If there were concerns about either, I dont think you let Badger go

There's a news story out there quoting Patrick's agent saying that he was signed to the 53 man roster because Atlanta was about to sign him off our practice squad. The Cards decided to protect an asset.

We can only dress 47, so he may be inactive for the balance of the season. Nice raise for him, though.

That goodness. I appears that Tampa's DL is on the smallish side. Grind out a win Sunday, Cards.

Good move.

I don't know how that works... Is the team which has a player on their practice squad required to be notified that a team is attempting to sign their player. Anyone know?

I don't think this is the case because, I recall Tony Gilbert being signed by the Jags a couple of years ago from the Cards practice squad. I think the Cards would have moved to keep Gilbert if they had known the Jags were after him.

So did Patrick prefer to stay with Arizona and notified them?

Per the story: The agent was informed... he informed the client... who in turn expressed interest in remaiing with the Cards... Cards FO were somehow informed: VOILA!

I am just happy that someone wanted to stay with the Cards.
That is more or less what I was interested in finding out...

Here is a player that was on the practice squad that had an opportunity to be signed to the active squad of another team, but his preference was to remain with the Cardinals.

When Gilbert had his chance a couple of years ago he was gone; I am assumming he never gave the Cardinals the option of keeping him.

Just another sign that things have changed in Cardinalville! :raccoon:
