Yeah...because it's J. Allen, A/P. He's done it to much better.

No. It's because one step into the play, Batiste is out of position. The talent gap between the very best in the NFL and guys who are second team is (comparatively) very small. Batistie is still going to be able to contain Jared Allen 80% of the time, even by himself.

College has NO responsability on Massie's guy (Robinson). Since he was picking up the stunt I see where he couldn't help contain the inside on Allen as well. Perhaps he could have and Sendlein could have handled the stunt to his left because HE'S BLOCKING NO ONE.

I meant Batiste's man. Centers can't just block NTs one-on-one at the snap, especially a shotgun snap. When you watch all the games on Sunday, you'll see that centers generally are responsible for double-teams or LB/S blitz pickup, because it takes them a moment longer to get into block position.

Sendlein is doing a good job here.

He moved directly left after the drop back from what I saw. Probably because he saw Allen taking the inside and Robinson looping around behind. Bringing the ball back as he's continuing to roll to the left he seemed to me to have NO FEEL that Robinson was right behind him.

Total breakdown from all the ususal suspects, imho.

That's not what happened. Skelton has a moment (no more) to scan the field, then feels the heat and moves left. Stand up at your desk and see how smoothly you're able to move from a throwing position to running to your left. This isn't a shuffle-step; he has to start moving full bore to escape from Robison.

My results:

Total plays: 48
Total plays with 5-man protection: 11
Total plays with 6-man protection: 24
Total plays with 7-man protection: 7
Total plays with 8-man protection: 1

Massie was a player getting extra help on about 18 plays where there were 6 protectors or more. On fully two-thirds of our offensive plays, we kept extra men in to protect.
You might know how to break down a play, but your math sucks! :D

43 plays total listed not 48. Extra protection on over three-fourths (32/43) of the plays.

;)

Even counting the hash marks that I made on my steno pad is beyond the mathmatical scope of this former English major. :bang:

yes but on THIS play, and another one, Batiste knows he has a chip coming on the outside. Simple logic is if you know you have help outside, you can't get beat inside because that's the side you are accountable for. He got beat inside on both those plays. That's not coaching that's a bad LT.

Let me ask you this.

If the defensive end does what Allen did and there is no one for the back to chip, what are his responsibilities.

It seems that if there was an awarness by the back and the quarterback you could take advantage of the Viking defense by a quick little outlet to LSH.

Maybe I'm wrong but a lot of good offense is situational awareness.

There are a linebacker, cornerback, and safety in front of LSH at the snap of the ball. These three screen shots happened in about 4 seconds. LSH sets up to block Allen, and he's already gone. By the time that Hyphen has gathered himself to move downfield, the ball's already out.

What I'd guess Hyphen's actual responsibility on this play is would be to enter the flat and become a blocker/emergency outlet in case Skelton does manage to escape. If the two WR on the right aren't creamed by their defenders off the line, one of those guys are going to be open.

I know all this happens in a split second but in the last screen shot there is no one within 5 yards of LSH.

I think we have a lot of problems and playing a lot of guys who haven't played much just adds to being able to respond when a play breaks down.

And Early Doucet or Andre Roberts are about to spring open over the middle, except he's going to get creamed by Chad Greenway. I wish I could put together an animated .gif of that to show how pwn3d he gets.

By the way I really appreciate the time and effort you put into doing this. It really adds to the enjoyment of this site.

Thanks.
