On NFL Network by Sterling Sharp. Says Cards were a player or 2 away from competing with elite teams. Says they have those players now. He goes on to say that if they can split with the Seahawks, the Cards are a world apart from the Rams and the 49'ers, have a great chance to win the division. Just need to split with the seaHawks

It is nice to have these prediction but we know how it went last year... I really hope no major injuries to be able to see the full potential of this highly talented team.

I hope we can, but I doubt it. I think we finish 2nd in the division and somewhere near the bottom of the wild card race, a little better the next season and contenders the year after.

I was just gonna say "didn't this happen last year?"

Hell. The "pro" sports writers are always a year behind.

It was even better than that.

First, Sterling set up expectations that he'd pick Seattle going away to be NFL West if not Super Bowl champs by saying that they were close to winning it all last year and then added Julian Peterson (which would negate the loss of Hutchison).

I was expecting him to then apply his sardonic wit to the Cardinals (i.e. "every year they're the "it" team and every year something happens) but instead he picked the Cards to win the division and described the Big Red as "scary" and that they figured to be a "fun team to watch."

Caught me totally flatfooted.

i like all the buzz that is going on with the cardinals. last season was a lot of excitement. i believe last season the cardinals didn't sell out season tickets. everyone knows it is going to be an exciting year for the cardinals. i just can't wait for the season to start. i can't wait for all these predictions to come true.

Not to sound repetitious, but we need to see if the Cardinals can field an average offensive line before even thinking of the post-season.

I think you've got it half right. Seattle will probably win the division but 10 games and a wild card spot are within our reach.

The predicitions where right last year but...

INJURIES prevented this team from fielding the team that those individuals predicting expected to play out the season for the Cards. No Berry, no player to take the heat off a hobbled Dockett when Davis went down, an injured Rolle, OL in shambles at the center position from the start and could never gel as a unit, Ross never getting fully able to play for an extended period of time, Warner and the list goes on.

The inference being that all those guys will be back this year and we'll be a much better football team if for only this reason.

The one thing not being considered is that (in the words of the late Gilda Radnor): "There's always something." - i.e. there's no reason to believe that there won't be a number of injuries to key players that could disrupt this season as well.

Injuries are a fact of life. Only remedies are: (a) better depth, (b) better conditioning/training and (c) a degree of luck. And, oh yeah (d) a collective resiliancy borne out coaching and veteran leadership that enables the team to overcome injuries to key personnel.

What we have to hope for is that DG and RG are beginning to stock the larder with better players at roster #'s 35 - 53, that key players (and units) stay healthy and that the mind-set of the team will be to shrug off minor personnel setbacks and continue to take care of business.

I think we're getting there - but I'm not ready to bet the store on this.

I still think Seattle is the team to beat in the West. That won't change until the Cardinals prove they beat the Hawks.
