Steve Keim (right), talking to Cardinal coaches Rick Courtright and Maurice Carthon at Arizona State's March Pro Day, was made director of player personnel Monday.

With the draft over, the Cardinals have begun reshuffling their scouting department, with the biggest move being the promotion of Steve Keim, who goes from the director of college scouting to director of player personnel.

Keim, heading into his 10th year with the Cardinals, will now coordinate the activities of both the college and pro scouting departments under general manager Rod Graves. He previously handled the college-side duties after his promotion from scout to director in 2006.

“Steve’s performance has gotten increasingly strong since he has been with the club, and we are just recognizing his efforts,” Graves said.

The Cardinals also promoted area scout Malik Boyd to regional scout and promoted combine scout Don Corzine to area scout.

Boyd’s new responsibilities now include cross-checking the top players in the western half of the country. Boyd, who is headed into his fourth season with the organization, was previously a scout for the Colts. Corzine, also headed into his fourth season with the team, will scout college players in the eastern part of the country.

Following the draft, the team did not renew the contracts of college scouts Lonnie Young and Bill Dekraker and pro scout Rashaan Curry.

Graves declined to comment about the exiting scouts. He said he is currently conducting interviews for four positions – two on the college scouting side and two on the pro scouting side. Graves expects to make the hires for those positions by the end of the month.

The surprising firing/non-renewal seems to be Lonnie Young, whom they were considering for a promotion. It looks like they couldn't agree on money, so they let him walk. I hope they didn't let a good front office guy go over some trivial amount, if he did want to stay.

Maybe he was the genius that vouched for Holt last year.
