Given the depth currently behind Acho and Scho, this is a great move. There's some good but unproven talent there - but having someone who knows the system and is dependable is definitely a wise investment heading into training camp.

This makes me feel a lot more comfortable about our depth at OLB. I still think Groves has a lot of potential, and Haggans is a perfect veteran fit to round out that group.

Disagree with the bolded. While Haggans best years are clearly behind him, to compare him to reanimated corpses like Todd Heap and Joey Porter isn't fair. The Cards were one of the top 3 defenses in the NFL last year against RB passes. That's due to Haggans ability to recognize and close down the flat, IMO. He was one of the guys who would reliably be on screen when a play was developing, not running in after it was complete.

Glad to have him back; Quentin Groves should be mighty nervous about securing a roster spot.

The Cards were one of the top 3 defenses in the NFL last year against RB passes. That's due to Haggans ability to recognize and close down the flat, IMO. He was one of the guys who would reliably be on screen when a play was developing, not running in after it was complete.

They're going to carry at least 4 OLB's, so he's certainly in the mix.

Groves should be nervous regardless, he's been terrible in the NFL so far.

Perhaps my use of "on his last legs" was incorrect. I meant he will still be able to contribute some, but I don't think he will see the field as much unless there is an injury to one of the other LBs. Again solid depth/rotational signing, but age eventually catches up to you. Hence why the one year contract.

Joey Porter wasn't on his last legs. He was just plain "washed up" which to me means useless.
