I like Haggans but he will be nothing more than a depth guy. He is clearly on his last leg. Still as thin as we are at LB it's good to have him back as a little insurance.

Sweet.

One would hope that Acho and Schofield would not need a mentor after this year.

Oh, and Haggans is solid for the role we need him in.

Given the depth currently behind Acho and Scho, this is a great move. There's some good but unproven talent there - but having someone who knows the system and is dependable is definitely a wise investment heading into training camp.

This makes me feel a lot more comfortable about our depth at OLB. I still think Groves has a lot of potential, and Haggans is a perfect veteran fit to round out that group.

I'd like us to bring back Holliday too.

Disagree with the bolded. While Haggans best years are clearly behind him, to compare him to reanimated corpses like Todd Heap and Joey Porter isn't fair. The Cards were one of the top 3 defenses in the NFL last year against RB passes. That's due to Haggans ability to recognize and close down the flat, IMO. He was one of the guys who would reliably be on screen when a play was developing, not running in after it was complete.

Glad to have him back; Quentin Groves should be mighty nervous about securing a roster spot.

They're going to carry at least 4 OLB's, so he's certainly in the mix.

(The corpse analogies are getting really old, bordering on decrepit) ;)

The Cards Director of ASFN Monitoring saw my post yesterday asking about Haggans and reminded Graves they needed to sign him.

:p

Of course this probably had more to do with it:

Zack Nash, Antonio Coleman, Brandon Williams.

Groves should be nervous regardless, he's been terrible in the NFL so far.

Perhaps my use of "on his last legs" was incorrect. I meant he will still be able to contribute some, but I don't think he will see the field as much unless there is an injury to one of the other LBs. Again solid depth/rotational signing, but age eventually catches up to you. Hence why the one year contract.

Joey Porter wasn't on his last legs. He was just plain "washed up" which to me means useless.

We figured this was going to happen, and I'm glad it did. He's a solid depth guy near the end of his career, and we desperately need that depth. Good signing.

Type of move smart teams make. Sounds like Vonnie is signing next week too.

Those two are more valuable to the Cardinals then anywhere else at this point.
