The Arizona Cardinals returned to the practice field Monday morning after having Friday through Sunday off for the bye week.
Missing from Monday's practice was third year defensive end Calvin Pace, who suffered an injury to his arm in a home accident in Atlanta over the weekend.
"I'm not sure all the details,” commented Cardinals Head Coach Dennis Green. “I did talk with Calvin and that's the most I could get from him as far as how it happened. He just kind of slipped and went to brace himself and went through the window."
Pace was severely cut and underwent an operation soon after the incident. He will be out for the remainder of the season.
The former first round draft pick is the second defensive linemen Arizona has lost this season. The Cards placed nose tackle Russell Davis on injured reserve September 28th after he suffered a torn bicep against the Seahawks in late September.
Pace had recorded eleven tackles and a sack this season, and was utilized primarily when the Cardinals used a five down lineman set. He was also the first backup to starters Bertrand Berry and Chike Okeafor.
Although the Cardinals have lost Pace for the season, the bye week was very beneficial to an injury-depleted defensive secondary. Cornerbacks Raymond Walls and David Macklin should be able to play Sunday vs. Tennessee, while rookie cornerback Eric Green is working to rehabilitate a shoulder injury he suffered in the 24-20 loss to Carolina Oct. 9.
On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Kurt Warner continues to work his way back to full strength from a groin injury which saw Josh McCown start the last two games.
“He is not 100 percent,” confirmed Coach Green after practice Monday about the two-time NFL MVP. “I think he’s making some great strides and we’ll decide at a later date if those strides are enough for him to be the starting quarterback or if Josh McCown will continue to start.
The Cardinals will face off against Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at Sun Devil Stadium. The Titans are coming off a 31-23 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
“We had a chance to watch those guys yesterday,” added Coach Green. “They are a lot better than their 2-4 record would indicate. (Steve) McNair is one of the best players in the game and they have a solid defense. They can make big plays.”
Injury Update
CB Antrel Rolle (knee), CB Eric Green (shoulder), RT Oliver Ross (hand), and KR/WR Reggie Swinton (hamstring) did not participate in practice.
