Cardinals General Manager Monti Ossenfort said the Cardinals are already getting calls about the possibility of trading out of the fourth overall pick, although he doesn't expect to actually make a trade any time soon.

It's similar to what we do in military planning, what we call MDMP (military decision making process). Essentially GMs come up with a bunch of scenarios.

For a QB needy team, they have to prepare for a scenario where Drake Maye is available at #4 and they want to trade up to get him. What will that cost? To forecast that to some degree, they pick up the phones and call Monti Ossenfort and ask him what it would cost to move from #11 to #4. It's in both parties best interests to get a reasonable compensation package understood since time will be a factor during the draft.

We are in the catbird seat. I am fine with any of 3 scenarios:
1) stay at #4 and take MHJ
2) drop to #6 for next year's first
3) drop to #11 for 11, 23, and next year's first, then trade back up to 6 or 7 for one of the top 3 receivers

Yup. Even though 15 minutes is a long time, it's not long enough to work the fine details of a deal. I'm sure there are a few rounds of calls that are like "are you interested in trading up/down?" (taking place now), "What generally would you be looking for?" (taking place in a few weeks), "Are you still interested?" (week of draft), "here's what we're thinking" (day of draft), "let's go" on the clock.

Which is why we should absolutely stay at the top of the draft and, ya know, draft one of them. The universe can **** with getting a haul and drafting anywhere we can't get MHJ or Odunze.

The amazing thing to me is that people are saying it openly, like Payton. I don’t recall seeing that previously. That eliminates the doubt some GMs harbor that they are bidding against themselves. The offers will be substantial.

Yep, the Cards IMO would need at least an additional 3rd round pick from Denver to risk going all the way down to 12.

Denver trade? Fire Monti. Moving BACK in the 1st and BACK later in the draft only for next year's picks? Yeah, that would be fire-ably stupid for this team. Nothing like always pushing it to the future and never actually building the team!
