in my memory, he was blasting teams for picking coaches based on if they were offensive or defensive coaches, not for their history in the nfl.

It was right after the draft when he said it. He also said he couldn't wait to play those "teams" this year. Then, when you looked at the schedule, the only team on the Saints schedule this year that fits into that category he was talking about is.....

the Arizona Cardinals.

Burns and Gambo have talked about this all week. Payton did walk back the comments on his conference call with Phoenix media. He complemented KK on getting it turned around and he really complimented Murray.

Sean Payton basically said a NFL head coach should have pay his dues as an assistant in NFL instead of a college Head Coach getting the job. Clear shot at KK.

Eh that’s not an entirely accurate portrayal of his comments. I think the primary thrust of his comments were more in line with it being stupid to only look for offensively minded coaches because it halves the pool from which you’re selecting. Hard to argue with that he also said he’s looking forward to coaching against college coaches. Nothing wrong with that. People are making this against KK are really out to lunch imo b
