5 TE's? :doi: Someone will be cut shortly.

TE is one of our biggest weaknesses on the team and none of these players are making much more than $1 mil per year. This signing pretty much guarantees we we won't take a TE in day 1 of the draft.

We have to get to 80 players on the roster anyway and creating an open competition for this position, IMO, is the only way you are going to find your starter out of this pack.

LOL I forgot that the more popular Raiola is his older brother Dominick. Donovan was camp fodder for the Seahawks.

Keep walking!

Love both of those signings.

You love the Donovan Raiola signing. Are you sure you arent think of Dominic Raiola his older borther. Because Donovan was an UDFA who has never actually made a 53 man roster in 4 years.

Also Becht will not be a starting TE. He just doesnt have the athletic ability or skill for that anymore. He is a one dimensional 280 pound blocking TE these days. Not saying thats a bad thing becuase its what we need, should go well with our O.

Also both were cut players so they dont count as a signed qualifing free agents in the comp pick formula. Raiola also doesnt fit in the top 51 salaries so he doesnt count towards the cap. But Becht is a 7 or 8 year vet so his vet minimum will count.

WOW!! I wanted Becht to slide to us in the 2nd round in 2000 . Instead, we ended up with Raynoch Thompson. By the way, that was the year we passed on Urlacker and took Thomas Jones in the 1st. Hopefully, Becht should be exactly what we need at TE.

Yeah that was my mistake. I read the headline and thought TJ must have mispelled it. Then I read the article. Oooops.

I do like Becht though for exactly the reason you mentioned. I would keep him, Spach, and Patrick and think that would be an ideal mix.

Agree a blocking TE has been a big priority. No need to draft one.

I'm not saying Becht is any great shakes, I'm just saying he's going to start. He's not incapable of running routes and catching balls, but he's a blocker first these days. I think it's a step towards what Whiz wants in an offense.

Anthony Becht didn't do much for the Rams last year but that may not have been his fault considering all of their problems. 6'5", 280 lbs. Decent size.

So we signed a 3rd OT and a center to snap the ball to Tyler Palko during camp.

The rams also still have Kloppenstien, right?
Yes, but we'll see for how much longer. I know the Rams have been very disappointed in his lack of progression/development. I think he was a bit of a reach in the draft and they got burned. I'm pretty sure they still have McMichael too.

Why can't we actually try to draft a proper blocking tight end instead of trying to throw crap at a wall and pray that it sticks?

Probably because the signing of Becht allows us the luxury of not having to spend a pick on a TE. With Becht and Spach as effective blocking tight ends and Patrick/Pope showing some ability as a recieving threat, I like our current TE mix.
