Wasn’t he released? Why would the lions release him a salary cap hit?
They signed Jamie Collins and then released him.
"
Devon Kennard had the two most productive pass-rushing seasons of his career in Detroit, and now he's looking for a new home.
The Detroit Lions released Kennard, a defensive captain, on Tuesday, one day after they agreed to a three-year deal with linebacker Jamie Collins.
Kennard was one of the Lions' biggest free-agent signings two years ago, a month after Matt Patricia took over as coach. He had 14 sacks in two seasons in Detroit, including a team-tying-best seven last year.
The Lions return Jarrad Davis, Jahlani Tavai and Christian Jones at the off-ball linebacker spots, while Collins has played some of his best at the outside linebacker position occupied by Kennard the past two years
Kennard, 28, had 104 tackles with the Lions.
He was the team's Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee last season and its NFL Players Association representative.
He was scheduled to make $4.95 million in base salary this season in
the final year of his contract. When he's released or traded, he'll leave the Lions with a dead money hit of $1.75 million on their salary cap"
