Foote played in only one game last season after rupturing his biceps in Week 1. It was the first time in his career he's ever missed more than two games in a season.
Foote's last full campaign, in 2012, saw him go through something of a renaissance, setting a career-high with 113 total tackles and tying a high with four sacks. He had largely been a situational player in the two seasons prior, after returning from a one-year stint with the Detroit Lions.

Gotta wonder if this is purely a depth signing or if the Cards are concerned with what they're seeing from Minter. Hopefully, it's the former.

Two years ago, Foote played under 20% of Pittsburgh's special teams snaps. That's not a great sign for a "depth" player.
That being said, what could they possibly have seen/not seen from Minter in two days of non-contact, non-competitive work that would have driven them back to the free agency pool?
I think that this is a guy who will provide experience at the ILB position that Alexander doesn't really have. The "D-Wash insurance" argument is pretty bogus, unless you believe that Brock Osweiler is legitimate Peyton Manning insurance for the Broncos--either way, you're going to have a huge step back if your starter isn't on the field.
Maybe SK prefers to have Foote on the field instead of Demens while DWash serves his suspension. Not a hard concept to grasp IMO.

Maybe he's continually making mental mistakes. Wasn't the reason they felt the need to go get Eric Winston last year because Massie wasn't wasn't cutting it mentally or learning the system properly? That being said, what could they possibly have seen/not seen from Minter in two days of non-contact, non-competitive work that would have driven them back to the free agency pool?
