Need bodies at the position, particularly with Washington facing suspension and no depth inside.

I'm just, whatever, about it..

We don't need somebody to sack the chickens, Wilson looks for those defenses and exposes them. We need to stay strong on every responsibility and disguise the guys we send.

Our "containment" "mush rush" "keep your lane man" is exactly what helped Los thrive here, homie didn't get 15 sacks and he dropped like 4 or 5 picks.

by picks I mean interceptions

Cardinals are still +1 on compensatory eligibility because Larry Foote was released by the Steelers in March. Cardinals have lost 5 and signed 4. If nothing else changes, would be eligible for ONE compensatory draft pick in 2015.

Foote played in only one game last season after rupturing his biceps in Week 1. It was the first time in his career he's ever missed more than two games in a season.
Foote's last full campaign, in 2012, saw him go through something of a renaissance, setting a career-high with 113 total tackles and tying a high with four sacks. He had largely been a situational player in the two seasons prior, after returning from a one-year stint with the Detroit Lions.

He said he didnt want the league minimum but maybe he changed his mind or we added a dollar :)

Gotta wonder if this is purely a depth signing or if the Cards are concerned with what they're seeing from Minter. Hopefully, it's the former.

Interesting:

He told a Pittsburgh radio station a month ago that he wouldn't play for the minimum.

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2014/04/03/larry-foote-im-not-going-to-play-for-the-league-minimum/

Foote said that teams are pursuing him, but he’s not going to accept a deal at the minimum.

“I got a couple offers,” Foote said. “I don’t want to come off stupid, but I just don’t want to play for the league minimum. So I’m hoping, summertime or whatever after the draft, that they can up the ante a little bit, and I’ll play. I’m not going to play for the league minimum.”

I see it as depth/insurance...we still do not know what will happen with Dwash and the code of conduct issue...so they bring in Foote who is very experienced, inexpensive, and can provide leadership.....he also has two Super Bowl rings, so his guidance will help out our younger players immensely come February.

Not thrilled about the possibility of Foote/Minter as a starting duo in the middle......liked Washington/dansby better, lol
fortunately it should not be a long term thing.

Certainly a possibility. Since they have OTA's this week maybe an ILBer didn't show up to participate. Maybe Demens and Dickson look crappy. Maybe BASK is getting a heads up about DWash's suspension and it's 4 or more games?

Maybe they found during their mock draft exercises that they don't feel an ILBer worth having will be available to them as the draft unfolds?

Lots of possible reasons for the signing of Foote.

Two years ago, Foote played under 20% of Pittsburgh's special teams snaps. That's not a great sign for a "depth" player.

That being said, what could they possibly have seen/not seen from Minter in two days of non-contact, non-competitive work that would have driven them back to the free agency pool?

I think that this is a guy who will provide experience at the ILB position that Alexander doesn't really have. The "D-Wash insurance" argument is pretty bogus, unless you believe that Brock Osweiler is legitimate Peyton Manning insurance for the Broncos--either way, you're going to have a huge step back if your starter isn't on the field.

Maybe SK prefers to have Foote on the field instead of Demens while DWash serves his suspension. Not a hard concept to grasp IMO.

I would imagine that Lorenzo Alexander--one of the Cards Top 6 2013 free agent prospects--would fill that role, not Demens. But whatever.

My point is that anyone that you're going to drop into that role is going to be a huge step back from what we have in Washington. The dropoff between Washington and Larry Foote is much greater than the dropoff between Foote (at this point in his career) and Alexander or even Demens. You're splitting hairs at that point.

And it's no sure thing that Daryl Washington will even have a suspension.

It's more likely that Larry Foote's price dropped than that all of a sudden the Cardinals suddenly discovered they needed ILB depth. Steve Keim mentioned the need for ILB depth over a month ago.

Maybe he's continually making mental mistakes. Wasn't the reason they felt the need to go get Eric Winston last year because Massie wasn't wasn't cutting it mentally or learning the system properly?
