This guy? As a starter on a good D? Just hilarious the mental gymnastics people go through to defend this team.
I don't really see anyone saying this is a great signing. I know I am not. It is just the usual hope for the best, hope they all know what they are doing.

Who said anyone said this is a great signing? There are people claiming that he's as good as Kyzir White, which is an assertion without evidence.

Hopium - it's a hell of a drug.

Thank you for confirming what everyone on here already knows: When the team makes a move, it's a good one to you. Funny enough, he wasn't one of the guys you were listing as a good replacement for White...until he was signed.

Also, you "pointing out" anything on White is simply you crying that your opinion is fact. It's not. You are in the minority that think he's trash. You're allowed to be heinously wrong. See? You're not the only one who can throw out wild claims.

Did I say it was a good one? Or did I say he was the equivalent of White? But I'd take ADG over White because White is what he is, ADG's floor is probably White with upside.

I know White is mediocre and so does the NFL. I know this because The Chargers didn't want to extend him and let him walk. The Eagles picked him up for €3m, and then let him walk, and then we paid him $5m per year and didn't resign him. This is the exact definition of NFL mediocrity.

And when he signs somewhere, it will again be for a short term mediocre contract.

Man, you are entertaining. I'll say that, at least. By the end of the day, White won't even be an NFL quality player and ADG will be an all pro :D

You're being entertained by your own inability to read what I write. So just to be clear.

White is mediocre
ADG is likely also mediocre, but has upside.
This is likely a placeholder for a linebacker they draft, it being only a 1 year deal with a 2nd year team option.

You seemed more than happy with the last 2 linebackers the team signed, so why sweat it? Odds are this one will be too.

iirc white knew he wasn't getting paid (in az) months ago - publicly said so - im guessing rallis and gannon went to bat for white - but monti wasn't feeling very monetary

idk who akeem is "replacing" but he damn sure aint no kyzir white

What is the basis for saying that ADG has upside? He's 27 years old, a former fourth-round pick, and a five-year NFL veteran.

It sure seems like the current meta for off-ball linebackers is let someone else draft and develop them, because they're not really maturing until the end of their first contract.

Once they've shown they can hang in the NFL, go ahead and capture their value in the second contract.

We 100 percent know Monti is nickle and diming the position and shopping in the dollar bin rather than, you know, being aggressive.
Yes. You are right. I don't see much in free agency or in the draft for this position that really is much better than White. Maybe Kendricks? I actually thought White would be back but they maybe want a one year deal? IDK, strange. It could still maybe happen.

The upside he showed when he got starter snaps last year. Bengal fans like him, think he's a good player. Fans generally don't BS on these things when players leave.

To the usual suspects dumping on this signing, I invite you to check out Zack Baun's stats before his breakout in 2024 that garnered him a new 3-year, $51m contract.

I'd say this is a gamble, and we'll see.

Sometimes guys like this really work out well, and other times you end up with having to play journeymen. I would have gone for Greenlaw.
Zack Baun model done by Philly.
If he is THE plan it is risky. Coaches and Monti see no further upside for White. Maybe they saw enough from ADG to see some with him. I hope there is a backup plan.

Kyzir White went pretty much this exact same route. Was a role player and last year starter for the Chargers, Chargers didn't want him back, signed a one year deal with the Eagles and had a decent year.

Okay, and what is that? One INT, two passes defensed, two tackles for loss, seven missed tackles, one pressure, zero sacks.

Is this a lot to get excited about?

Where are these posts from Bengals fans? People said the same stuff about Nichols and Jones last year. I looked it up and the general vibe was how we'd feel if, like, Victor Dimukeje moved on.

Hey - if randos on the internet say that an ex-player is good, that's all I need to know!
