No reason why we can't afford both White and ADG...White can play early downs, ADG 3rd down and special teams. Best of both worlds!

I'm guessing that the Cardinals have around $16M'ish in cap space left, give or take a few million depending on how the latest FA contracts are structured. They would still like to extend Trey McBride so that will be a big chunk of money. They have other needs that they are still working on in FA at other positions of need as well.

Obviously they could play with the contract structure and push money to later years if they Really wanted to keep White. I think the question becomes how much is White's camp asking for and for how many years? Right now it's obviously a lot more than Monti is willing to spend at that position.

I am still hopeful that when White sees that there isn't as big a market for him as he had hoped, that he might come back to the Cardinals on a more team friendly deal. However the Cardinals appear to be OK with moving on from White from everything that we have seen transpire so far this offseason.

Yeah, I mean we all know that cap space is more of an idea that a reality. The fact is they have plenty of resources to keep White around. The available resources at G and WR are incredibly thin at this point - you're probably looking at a Hernandez re-signing at this point. CB is at most a reclamation project at this point.

Here's hoping that the fact that he's still available is a good sign we can bring him back. If we lose our top player in snaps last year for less than 5M, you have some real questions to answer re-signing a clown like Zay Jones for that #.

Well. It’s the same argument.

What White has meant to this team in this rebuilding process and objectively rating White as a player is NOT the same.

I can certainly give White credit for what he has done. But that doesn’t make White a good player by league standards.

We are talking a buttom 2 value position and the differentiator between good and average is coverage ability. An off-ball ILB that is good against the run is arguably the easiest skillset to find of any positions in the NFL.
I need to talk through this.

Per OTC, the contract for the 30th ranked LB is 6.75 mil. Robert Spillane is the 10th highest paid ILB at 11 mil. So the financial different in salary of the 10th highest paid ILB and the 30th is 4.25 mil. The gap between the 10th and the 5th ILB is 4 mil. So basically, the gap between the 30th highest paid ILB and the 10th is the same as the gap between the 10th and the 5th. In terms of this discussion...pretty much all vet ILB are varying degrees of "ok", and there are only 5 or 6 ILBs that are "good".

Obviously, White is not in the top 5 of contracts, but his stats were comparable to those of Spillane as I showed in another thread. That puts White in the ok group until his value is established via a new contract. Both Wilson and ADG are paid in the 4-5 mil range. I don't believe either have established starter stats that comp to White or Spillane, but I guess there is a chance they could elevate into that group.

IDK that you are wrong, but I also don't know that you are right. After talking this through, it kinda comes down to the production Monti gets from ADG and the savings based on White's next contract. Seems like a strange way to save a couple a mil but again, that depends on White's next deal and how the staff can coach up ADG and/or Walker (Wilson was going to be a starter regardless).

The only problem I could see there is White had the dot on his helmet. You'd have to take the dot away, which would be a demotion. Why would he re-sign for a demotion?

Why would you take the dot away or demote him? White can still start and play on 1st and 2nd down.

I asked around and no one thinks the Cards have an offer on the table for White. They’ve moved on.
