We're in full go mode, that's for sure. Love how they are still hungry. I feel like the last regime would have packed it in and just waited for camp at this point.

What's everyone's thoughts on Barkley? The USC part scares me a bit.

His arm is stronger than most think, he has good footwork and played in a pro style offense.

That said he's from USC, he had a shoulder injury and didn't have a great last year. No thanks. Wait until 2014.

I smell trade extortion.

Not with these public comments:

“We were going to take the best player available at that position, at No. 7, whether it be a tackle, pass rusher, corner, or quarterback,” Arians said. “Right now I don’t see a quarterback in this class coming up that would have been in that spot for us. Now, it might be for somebody else, but not for us. Especially with the elite offensive linemen that are out there this year, and defensive linemen.

Not for the Bills liked Fergie did to SD and Leaf, but someone else lower might want someone.

Doubtful, and hell maybe even it's a 2nd round trade. But either way if someone is interested it's good to have a solid report on him, you could then tell the team interested in trading, what your scouts thought was 'great' about him.

Hypothetical situation, not a good chance of happening but not out of the realm of possibility either. He is still available to pick in the 2nd round, what is everyone's thoughts about taking him now?

I am not sure how I would feel about it yet myself?

I dont watch college so I cannot comment accurately but with the USC history, one out of 4 are any good. not good odds.

From a talent standpoint it isn't a reach. But with Palmer and Stanton, I'd rather use the pick on MOAR OL or a safety.

If they took and OLB that fell, that's fine.

So we have three need positions we could add a significant player or a 3rd string QB.

I would like him in the 2nd round. With Palmer as the starter, we would not have to rush and start him. Arians & Moore would be good teachers. He could compete with Palmer in 2014 or be the starter in 2015. Palmer has a 2 year contract but Cards can get out after 1 year. Lots of options.

Oh man if we somehow got Barkley in 2nd or traded up into first to get him without givignup next years first.....

I would be ecstatic. Palmer, Stanton, Barkley???? Sign me up.

I love Matt Barkley but the timing of this is odd to me.

I would get Steve Keims name tattoed somewhere on my body.

Barkley as a guy who will learn for a year or 2 under fellow USC grad Palmer? I think that would be an amazing situation for him and us.

Dont see it happening though. I think he goes 12-25 part of round 1

I don't know. He may slip into the top of the 2nd. Then they may make a move. How many teams in the late teens on are going to draft a 2nd string QB?

I'm not sure I even understand what I'm saying, but I think the following rings true:

If you believe a QB is worth taking high in the 2nd round, you should take him in the 1st round.

Reasoning: The QB is so important to the team & its impact on its future that "either a guy has what it takes to be a winner or he doesn't." If he does, he's worth your 1st round pick. If he doesn't, why bother? He's not worth your 2nd or 3rd round pick either. (You'll never win with him anyway, so you might as well use the pick somewhere else where it can do the most good).

I realize that this flies into the logic that guys like Brady (or Kurt or Jim Hart) didn't get drafted high, but when your plan is to draft a blue chip guy to build your franchise around, either he's The Guy...or he's not.

if you're sold on Barkley, he's worth your #7 because of his importance to the franchise. If you're not sold on him, save the pick - you'll never win with him anyway.

Does this make sense? It just feels right.

Oddly enough after watching Game Changers on NFLN I wouldn't mind him at our pick.

I love Barkley more then most but even i cant agree with this. This team can compete next year with a stud OL or OLB. And we are picking high enough where we NEED a cornerstone at one of those glaring deficient areas.

I would have agreed with you pre Palmer. But not anymore.

My point is that if you feel we can win without Barkley at #7, then he's not worth wasting a pick on at 38.

I would pass though I don't think he gets past Jacksonville at #33.

Barkley does nothing to improve this team IMO. He isn't a future starting QB in this league if you are putting him in a vertical based passing offense. He doesn't have the arm to do it nor does he handle the pocket well enough to do so either. From what I have seen, and I have seen quite a bit of Barkley, he is a less athletic Alex Smith which is not a fit for this offense.

I disagree. Top ten picks are generally players with high up side, but are ready to help your team immediately. A second round pick on the other hand is a much better place in the draft to take someone that your going to develop for a year or two. Just because we don't see him as ready to help us in year one doesn't mean we shouldn't take him in the second. The only thing that would matter is whether or not they believe he will be a good QB in a couple years behind Palmer.
