The Cardinals will work out WR's Oronde Gadsden (Dolphins), Isaac Byrd (Panthers), and Khalil Hill (Falcons) today.

Hill is the brother of ASU's Hakim Hill.

He also has had foot problems recently so they will have to be careful about him.

This is good news

considering we only had three healthy lads going into the Ravens game. Gilmore and Kasper were still gimpy though they played.

If Gadsden can pass the physical I'd be excited to have him. He's got great hands, and has a knack for getting open on third down--he'd be a nice target for blake and I could see Boldin, Johnson and he starting.

Nice to see some activity on the personnel front from the Cardinals, but how do any of these guys help (besides being warm bodies)?

Oronde Gadsden, even when healthy, is a big, slow possession receiver whose best days are almost certainly behind him. Isaac Byrd is a career backup who was unable to stick with either Tennessee or Carolina, hardly hotbeds of WR talent. And Khalil Hill was a 2002 6th-rounder of Atlanta who didn't make that team, wound up on the Saints' practice squad last year, and couldn't find a roster spot this season. (Trivia note: if the Cards sign Hill, they'll have both of the starting WRs from 2000 for the Iowa Hawkeyes, where he and Kevin Kasper were teammates.)

If they're just looking for rotation guys, great. But I don't see any of these three WRs actually helping the Cards win games.

We're not going to find any studs right now, not any free agents who are gonna turn this ship around.

The whole time people are saying we should be signing people, and when we take a look at some many say that they aren't good enough. Be happy the team is looking at people.

Adam:

I said it was "nice to see some activity on the personnel front." And the Cards can clearly use some more players to line up at WR. But I'm not certain these guys are gonna address the shortcomings of the current receiving corps.

As a long-time follower of the Dolphins, I'm very familiar with what Oronde Gadsden can and can't do. When he's healthy, he's a big, strong possession type with barely adequate speed. He's been pretty effective for the Fins on third downs and in the red zone. But he's coming off injuries, both last year and in the preseason, and the only NFL team Gadsden's ever played for decided he's not worth keeping for the veteran minimum. I'm not sure the Cards really need another slow guy with good hands, particularly if there are questions about his health.

I don't know nearly as much about Isaac Byrd, but he got extended looks at both Tennessee and Carolina and was let go. Neither of those teams is so loaded at WR that a good player couldn't grab a roster spot.

At least Khalil Hill can run, and might be able to substitute for the injured Cards deep threats like Gilmore and McAddley. But he didn't last one training camp with the team that drafted him, and couldn't get off the practice squad in New Orleans. Makes me wonder how much potential he can have.

I mean, if all that's left out there is practice squadders and marginal veterans, maybe the Cards should call up Jake Soliday, Reggie Newhouse, and/ or Antwone Savage. At least those guys already know the playbook.

I wonder why we didn't look at Reggie Swinton when he got cut?
He returns both KO's and Punts(so Quan could rest) and he's fast. Not a great player mind you but worth a look, he already got claimed, released and claimed again.

While I'm at it does anybody know where Kareem Kelly is? He was drafted by the Saints in the 6th round, signed a 3 year deal on June 2dn and was apparently cut on 8/31. Near as I can find he's not been claimed. He definitely fits the definition of speed WR he's the 2nd fastest player in USC history. Never lived up to his freshman season and went from a future first rounder early in his career to a 6th round pick. I talked him up pre draft as a kid the Cards should look at because most of his problems relate to things Sully and Tolbert could help with, getting off the line, routes etc.

Gadsen isn't going to help. Kasper and Boldin are both possession guys. We need players who can stretch the field, and Hill is the only one of that type of player who was brought in. We might as well bring in Snoop Minnis for a look.

All we really need is a guy that can run a go route, the faster, the better. Put him on the weak side, and let him get past a slower #2 corner. Blake can (allegedly) get it to him.

Reggie Swinton was traded, not cut.

He was cut like two weeks ago by the Packers.
