Yes this is the logical outcome of a gm who has to resort to trades to overcome drafting deficiencies. Luckily he’s been pretty damn good with his trades. So even though we give up draft capital and $$$ they end up hitting. Let’s hope he keeps success rate high. Like Ertz. Like the move.
My point is that this move is much better if he is able to extend Ertz.

We say this every year.
And for a significant portion of the franchises history, it has been true. However, my intention was not to be a black cloud. I like Ertz. I like his fit in the offense. I do hope they extend him as it will minimize the compensation even more.

Love it. I really felt that with such potential for explosion in our offense, keeping the edge of unpredictability run/pass with a TE after the Maxx loss is a huge save.

Whenever Ertz is on the field we can legitimately run or pass.

Essentially, we have 5 draft picks and a roster of

1 RB under contract
3 WRs under contract (one being Andy Isabella)
0 TEs under contract
3 EDGE players under contract and one of them (Kennard) is likely to be cut
2 CBs under contract

No lies detected but Keim had to do this. It’s basically a trade deadline in MLB…. You have to show the team you’re going all in.

Hitting early in the draft next year is paramount because of minimal cap space after extensions/tags.

Since I unintentionally was a bummer on this, let me share what I do like about the Ertz acquisition.

Zach Ertz is a matchup issue for defenses and what personnel packages defenses use to matchup with him will help make decisions easier for Kyler. If teams choose to use a base look vs when Ertz is in the game, Kyler will know he has a matchup advantage in the passing game should he want to use it. Most LBs in the league with struggle to matchup in the passing game with both Ertz and Edmonds on the field. If defenses utilize a DB or nickel look, then Ertz will have a blocking advantage and we can check to a run option where he has a better chance of being a plus blocking option. As good of a player as Maxx was, he wasn't good enough to dictate defensive personnel packages.

We will have 3 comp picks, one will be a fifth rounder for PP.

Even AJ Green is not the prime AJ Green here. Green is having a good year not the prime Green year. At best that is what Ertz can give to Arizona. That will be great.

LOL. I am generally happy with the trade. You guys are trying to beat me down to make me agree he is the prime Ertz?

You brought up your reservations and no one said we got 'prime' Ertz.

Ertz is a luxury for Arizona offense. Arizona offense doesn't need TEs. It is great Cardinals now have Ertz. Kliff maybe scheming to take out TEs of the offense as the talent there was lacking. We will see what happens to this stat after Ertz.

In the third year iteration of the Kingbury offence, he evidently sees a reason to incorporate a T-end.

But someone did ask why he said past his prime which is virtually the same as asking why he’s not considered prime.
I was asking a question as to what metrics he was using to consider him "Past his prime". And brought up AJ Green as a comp.

Fun fact, we now have 3 of the top 35 picks from the 2013 draft on our roster and not any of the ones we drafted. Also, only 12 of those 35 are still in the NFL. So we have a quarter of the remaining top 35 players left!

If you throw Alford in there, we have 4 of the top 60.

Unintended result of AJ Green, James Conner, and potentially Zach Ertz's success as one year players in AZ as it can begin to be viewed by players and their agents as a destination to sign and reestablish their value. Not ideal for long-term continuity but a great way to get FAs off of a down year to sign prove-it deals at a bargain.

11 personnel package becomes a de facto legitimate 10 with Ertz.

In this situation, yes. But when you rely on trades to fill out your roster it’s where you fall.
Why is that? The Rams are right there in the mix to win it all and they’ve relied a lot on trades.

I think draft picks, other than top 10 picks, are way overrated. Give me guys that have shown they can play in the league.

Also, if you want a bit of reference. Baltimore has recently made a point to sign third contract FAs citing it as a way to get veteran players who can out-perform their contacts as the league/market views them as "past their prime". Arizona utilizing a concept of a very good Baltimore front office is good news.
