What run? We are talking about the 4th down pass play.

What I'm pissed about is Kyler acting as if he's blameless. As if it's not on him to assess if they are "schematically ******".
You did not watch the video explaining the play.

What he meant is that between the cards players not executing the play correctly, and the Chargers defending it near perfectly there was almost zero chance of success. It was not a criticism of the play call.

The comments are brutal. Example: "I play CoD with Kyler all the time. He usually goes John Rambo and leaves the squad. So I kind know how Kliff feels."

Taking Twitter trolls seriously is not productive, and it's more of an indictment on Bidwill for creating this entire narrative with the stupid contract clause that even his GM and coach told him was a bad idea, then he removed the clause after backlash. Total incompetence and he embarrassed his own player for no reason.

So not a bad play call then as it will work if everyone did their job and execute, which means the biggest blame should be put on Keim for not able to get the good enough players to execute the play.
An absolutely horrific play call on 4th and 1, on a play that should have been a punt anyway.

This comment illustrates someone either (a) didn’t watch the breakdown of the play; or (b) didn’t understand the breakdown of the play.

Twitter trolls from the Barstool Sports feed, no less. The only thing that shows is what snarky 14 year olds think is funny.

the problem began with the 3rd and 1 call. A Kyler option play that gained 0. One of Kliff's issues is that he overthinks things.

The team is paying Conner $7mm for this very situation. Go 12 personnel and let Connor run downhill and be done with it. He had been averaging ~8 yards a carry at that point.

Also acceptable: go 12 or 13 personnel and take a play action deep shot to Hollywood.

The play call was bad, but it isn't a bad call. The Cards are number 1 in 4th down percentage, so I usually don't mind them going for it, even on their own side of the field.

The real problem is not running with Connor on 3rd or 4th when the dude was averaging over 6YPC at the time.

Ah, no, the risk/reward at that point was utterly against going for it. IDGAF what our conversion percentage is, there are just situations where the coach is a freaking moron for trying it. If they make it, eh, you don't like the call but, hey, it worked, so it's forgiven. When they fail, for whatever reason, refer back to the moronic coach part.

That's how it sounds. That's how it was taken. You only have to read the responses on that tweet to see that.

No matter the call, no matter what should have happened does he bear no responsibility for the really badly under thrown pass? It was there. Nuk was past his guy. His you are past with no deep cover you are open.
Not a good pass but the primary receiver was taken away and he didn’t get it deep enough for Hop. The dangers of going for it at your own 35 in a game you are winning in the first half.

Media not being kind to KM and his comment about the scheme. ESPN saying he threw his coach under the bus. Herm Edwards said he understands frustration but Kyler should have answered differently. They all seem to agree this relationship is coming to an end.

there was clearly an option in the play design to hand the ball off then
KM is too short to see the Safty and didn't hand off the ball, althought Connor would have been short because RT was beaten badly.

my problem with the 3rd and 1 option call was one of risk vs reward.

You could go low risk -- James Connor hand off where the risk is low - and the reward is low --2 yards and a first down conversion.

or

high risk: play action deep shot but with a high reward of a TD or giant gain

instead: he calls an option play where the risk is the loss of 4 or 5 yards and the reward is maybe a 12-yard gain. Its like-- why bother

BTW: sometimes the perfect defensive call puts you in a bad spot. That was the case on the 4th down play.

Chargers took a risk: cover 0 with Derwin James 1v1 vs DHop, Hollywood 1 v 1 on the outside. Only an audible might have helped there.

Ya I noticed this too… but when do you ever see the media call execs or coaches out? Those some people are likely people the media folks need something out of, end up being co-workers of… post playing career stuff/un-written rules amongst coaches.

Adam Gase is really the only guy I can think of hand that was getting roasted by the media in his waining weeks as a head coach.

Really? Your bashing the D for shutting them out but not short enough?

The longest the Chargers got on those 3 drives was 30 yards.

On the 1st they started on the 25 and got 27 yards before punting. 23 of those were a Herbert scramble. 4 and out.

On the 2nd they started on the 39 and lost 3 yards before punting. 3 and out.

And on the 3rd they started on their 22, got down to our 35 and got pushed back to our 48 before punting on an 8 play drive.

On the following 3 offensive drives they had 9 plays for a total of 16 yards.
You answered my questions perfectly. The D allowed them to move over 30 yards on each drive before we stopped them. That put their punter in a position to keep us inside our OWN 10 on all 3 drives. How about a 3 and out & keep them under 10 yards on any of those drives & our offense doesn’t have to start on the 6??? Doesn’t excuse the pathetic play calling by Kliff, but the D seldom does their job when the game is on the line. We’re an awful team because we don’t play complimentary football.

The offense didn’t move the ball at all in fourth quarter after Conner TD early. That cost them the game. Three series and not one first down. Get a couple and they win. Didn’t even need to score. Just move the ball some.
