I do like the 5 plays for the O'Line idea.

If those behind have multiple options on each O'line play then defenses will have their work cut out for them. The O'Line will be very good at what they are doing and the backfield will be able to exploit each of the 5 options in different ways depending on what happens at the line. So 5 plays for the O'Line becomes 15-20 plays for the run offense but they are concentrating on only 4 or 5 ways to exploit the play!

KISS is a good approach. Throw in the pass offense and we have the ability to create a world of hurt for defenses with this O'Line.

So again an offense is just like a beautifully written program, tight code that is wonderfully efficient, no wasted plays, no wasted motion, always an answer, always telling the defense what IT must do to stop you.[/quote]

Well Put! That was the beauty of the Packers back in the day. The execution of the plan was spectacular and much of it was based on repetition of what they did well and continuing to perfect it. Just love to watch them. And as I said Starr wasn't chopped liver either!!

Guess what? This OL isn't the OL of the 60's Packers nor do we have Jim Taylor and Paul Hornung in our backfield. I haven't seen Vince Lombardi on the sideline wearing a Cardinal hat either.

The Packers were successful in running the sweep after both Hornung and Taylor left.

Not necessarily. Versatile personnel means that when somebody gets hurt, another player can step in without missing much. Being able to play 2 spots doesn't mean you should be able to run twice as many plays. For a team without star depth on the line but several similar-talent level guys, this is a good thing. The purpose of being able to play multiple slots is in maintaining the talent on the line, not broadening the playbook.

I agree with you, but that is not the versatilility that Grimm or this article is talking about. They are not talking about Wells being able to play OG or OT. They are talking about each individual player being able to play in multiple different schemes not positions. Being able to play in zone one play then straight man to man another. Not playing multiple positions.

Finally, someone has articulated this correctly.

Even more importantly, the defenses you'll see them running against aren't defenses from the 21st century.
