Please say no to Brian Cushing. He is a 'roid freak. He has a chance to bust up quicker than Dan Morgan. I'd rather have Clay Matthews. I like going best LB available as this draft is deep in 1st round LBs.

I would think you should be a little more careful when making assumptions about players being roid freaks. I have pretty good info backing Cush as all natural and its silly for some posters to be sitting behind their computer across the country to make accusations like that.

Especially as a reason not to draft them....

So share your info before calling mine silly. BTW, I am not across the country from you. I am right next door to you. Silly boy.

DRAFT 3-- No Boldin but there is a Dansby

  • Here we traded Q to the Giants for their two second round picks (13,28) and their first of two 5th rounders (15).
  • This move gave us 10 draft picks, more than I ever remember us having since they limited the draft to 7 rounds. Multiple draft picks ensure youth, competition and many times $$, by not forcing you to fill holes with FA's who are often past their prime. It also makes it much easier to go BPA. Obviously you need to make tradesor have a big loss in FA to get these picks, so it cant happen too often, but whatever.
  • Our FA class this year included Dansby, Ralph Brown, Monty Beisel, BSP, T Smith, Castille, JJ, Bert B and Clark Haggans. Chike refused to re-do his deal and was cut. Antonio Smith also left. Sendlein and Patrick were both given third round tenders and stayed. Gabe Watson got a new deal and Steve Breaston took some more $ as well. We were also able to bring in Matt Birk through some good recruiting by Warner. Kleinsasser (sp?) from the Vikes has also been brought in for slightly more than the vet min.
1.Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest
Height: 5-8. Weight: 193.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
  • It took me watching the SB practices twice and seeing some more film on him, but he has my attention now. He could benefit from Hood and Cromartie by coming in as the nickel and having time to learn, but I doubt it would take long. This kid is like Steve Smith but on D. I love his tenacity and ball skills.
2a.Clay Matthews OLB USC
Height: 6-3. Weight: 246.
Projected 40 Time: 4.72
  • There really seems to be a mixed bag on this kid. Either way I like his production, dedication to the game and his iron will. Most of all, I love his bloodlines.
2b.Connor Barwin OLB/TE Cincinnati
Height: 6-3. Weight: 253.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
  • I will be honest and say I have seen little of him, one game to be exact. I noticed in that one game though that the offense tried tried to stay away from him as much as possible and he was still all over them. I think in time he could play some TE and go Vrabel-style, but in the mean time he would be a great addition to the D.
2c.Shonn Greene RB Iowa
Height: 5-11. Weight: 235.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
  • Honestly, I am still not a big fan of this pick, and I sat here trying to get around it for a while, but it is what it is. The runningback class is just not too great this year IMO and especially if you are looking for a sppeed back like I was. On the plus side, after having this bruiser ram it down D's throats 20 times in the first three quarters, Hightower might look like Carl Lewis out there and JJ might almost look tough to bring down if he's playing against guys who are tired as hell from dragging Greene down all day.:D
3.William Beatty LT Connecticut
Height: 6-6. Weight: 291.
Projected 40 Time: 5.02.
  • I know this is probably no more than wishful thinking that he would still be around, but I was trying not to use the same players in different drafts. If he is gone then hopefully Augustus Parrish (whom I love) is still hanging around waiting for us.
4.Sherrod Martin FS Troy State
Height: 6-0. Weight: 197.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
  • Here is the third safety we sorely need. A guy with good speed for the position who is willing and ABLE to play centerfield when called upon.
5a.Worrell Williams ILB California
Height: 6-2. Weight: 249.
Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
  • You gotta love this guy. He hits like a locomotive, can drop back and always seems to wrap up. I love his intensity and big-hit abilty combined with his sure tackling and good speed.
5b.Corvey Irvin 3-4 DE Georgia
Height: 6-3. Weight: 296.
Projected 40 Time: 5.02.
  • Yet another pick I am not in love with, but I was never in love with Antonio Smith either and he got the job done (kinda). This kid has all the tools.
6.Anthony Hill TE N.C. State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 264.
Projected 40 Time: 4.82.
  • Best blocking TE in the draft IMO. He is big and tough and loves putting DEs on their backs. What more do you want. Oh, he can catch a bit too and looks a hell of a lot better running down the field than Tuman and wont get brought down by 180lb CBs like Pope.
7. Curtis Brinkley RB Syracuse
Height: 5-9. Weight: 203.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
  • I feel like after all of my hard work I am entitled to one homer pick and here it is. This kid ran for 1000+ yards for Syracuse. That alone makes him more than worthy of going one slot ahead of Mr. Irrelevant IMO.

Its speculative much like mine is second hand. I have friends close to the program.

And I meant across the country from SC. I know you are right here next to me. :)

I just think its somewhat irresponsible to make accusations like that and I like him as a upper 20's pick personally.

No harm no foul.

I like it, how well Does Smith jump? I'm a fan of his as well, but with his height I wanna see how he does against taller receivers and jump balls b4 I make a conclusion

Just echoing what many others have said. Look at the pix I provided. Hard to ignore. I remember seeing him 2 years ago as a fat pudgy out of shape sloth.

Something about smoke and the presence of fire. Maybe he knows A Rod's cousin.

I guess we'll find out for sure this weekend at the combine, but from what I've seen, I expect him to be in the 37-40 range, but closer to 40. I should have elaborated, that is what really reminds me of Steve Smith, the way he goes up and gets balls.

Either way, I dont think it's that big of a deal because DRC is tall for the position and will be playing against the bigger reciever.

He really has better ball skills than any DB I have seen come out in a loooooooong time. He and DRC would be the best tandem in the league within 2 years IMO. He is either gonna be an interception machine or people aren't gonna throw near him.

Hey, hey hey. Dan Morgan was not a steroid user nor was he a bust. He's was always one of the better MLBs in the league when he was healthy.

md, all your picks are sound and with solid reasoning. Some picks are wishful, but you conceded to that. My only issue is that Jasper Brinkley would not work out at OLB. He's strictly an inside banger and would get exposed outside with his foot speed.

If I implied Dan Morgan was a juicer and/or a bust I meant neither. What I meant was, he couldn't stay healthy enough to have a career. He was All Pro and not a bust. His problem was concussions and shoulders.

Clay Mathews may be the bigger steroid risk.

Justin, you suck. (Sorry about your dog) Your mocks are sucky. Give me one, just one Cards mock draft where I recognize more than two names. You damned draftniks are all alike. Tossing around names of obtuse players on even more obtuse teams. Aargh!

Ok, here's your mock to make you happy:

1 - Beanie Wells
2 - Mark Sanchez
3 - Micheal Crabtree
4 - Brian A-Sack-Po
5 - Aaron Curry
6 - Andre Smith
7 - Rey Maualuga

Seven names you know.....take it to the bank.

I consider you the top evaluator of college talent on this board, so I couldn't have hoped for a better response, thanks.

Complete unrealistic, we wouldn't take a WR in the third round!

Sorry Jim, I dont think Notre Dame has more than two pro prospects this year. :D
