It's not Haren -- it's that hacker Eric Byrnes and his excessive contract.

It all worked out, in that we did get Haren, and Carlos got the fresh start I think he really needed, and a very different type of manager who is probably better for him. For me, it's just a matter of having really looked forward to Carlos as our right fielder of the future throughout his time in the minors, so it's bittersweet.

The problem was the Byrnes new contract and the fact he is the fan favorite for the majority of the fans , I think.

I would have rather kept Quentin though, for the money and let him grow. He'll be better than Byrnes by the all-star break, this year. Bad one, letting him go, they could have pulled the Haren deal, regardless.

How many PAs does Quentin need for me to throw this myopic junk up in the air?

"Great Outfield Prospects"??? No, I certainly don't have them all pegged a "busts" - with the exception of Quentin of course... But "great"???

Quentin? At best, he will be a .260 hitter who in a good year, will get you 25 dingers... I honestly believe his best MLB years are behind him - which is too bad, but true...

Carlos hit his American League leading 9th homer last night. He also collected three hits in the White Sox win over the Mariners. Great to see Q doing well.

I think you may be thinking of the wrong guy. He bats right handed and all the homers I remember went to right field and Fridays is in left field. For him to pull it and almost hit Fridays would be near impossible. I think Barry is the only one who pulls like that.

What? He does hit right handed and right handers with power tend to "pull" the ball and that would be to left field. He has the right guy.

I guess you did not read what I types. I said "all the homers I remember went to right field and Fridays is in left field" and "For him to pull it and almost hit Fridays would be near impossible". I stand by that statement since Fridays it really high up and there is "No One" in MLB with the power to pull it to hit it to Fridays. I never said power hitter do not pull the ball. Please read it again. Thank you

As Byrnes goes 6-82 Carlos just hit his league leading 10th homer, a grand slam, as he is 2-4 with 5 rbi's.

We can talk about Carlos all day, but I know for a fact that he is a mental player. He needed the change of scenery. If he hadn't moved on to Chicago, he'd be the same player we all saw last year. He needed a fresh start and he is making the most of it.

Yes it sucks that he is doing so well and Byrnes is not, but I will be content rooting for the best team in baseball AND one of our former farm-hands, who is having a breakout season.

Go DBACKS

Go Carlos!

I will be pulling for the Diamondbacks and every player but it hurts when you see a guy go through your entire minor league system and then take off for another team. By the way, Carlos hit his 11th home run today, driving in two runs.

I'm with you Crisper -- today two friends who also closely watched CQ climb through the minors with great anticipation said the same thing -- Carlos absolutley had to have a fresh start. We exchange news and high-fives about how he's doing lately (he's still "our boy Carlos") then turn to watching the DBacks (and booing Eric Byrnes, as we have all along anyhow).

I have high hopes for Carlos, but don't put him in the hall of fame just yet. Let's have this conversation in, say, early September and if he's doing as well then... well.... he's on his way.

I've seen too many flashes in the pan to get too excited just yet. He may yet be stricken by Junior Spivey disease. Let's hope not, but we still need significantly more data before we can annoint the guy as the second coming of Babe.... ;)

Actually, we'd annointed him the second coming of Roberto Clemente. And Carlos is a clean liver (pardon the pun) -- not a Spivey type. He's just doing what lots of us predicted he had in him for the past several years.

Carlos hit his league leading 12th homer last night off of C.C. Sabathia. It's great seeing him doing so well even if it's not in a Diamondback uniform.

Shrug. He needed a change of scenery and likely wouldn't have played so well as Diamondbacks. It happens.

Hey Jack Cust is getting hot again, can we talk about how we let that one get away or in case never even gave a chance. He is playing LF too. Or Dana Eveland getting the complete game win yesterday. He has a lower ERA that everyone on the starting staff except for Webb and he is in the AL. Maybe we should have kept him instead of Haren, then we could have kept Carlos too.

Seriously, do you think Tigers fans were all, Karim freakin' Garcia is all we got. Man, if would have only had given Luis Gonzalez a chance. You can not always get them right, but do we need to be reminded of it every time he hits a HR.

Crede will be joined by left fielder Carlos Quentin as the White Sox representatives on the American League All-Star team, with both players being selected on the players' ballot. Quentin stands as a tremendous story of perseverance in his own right.

Quentin has emerged as one of the true surprises of the current campaign. He was part of the first trade at the 2007 Winter Meetings, a bit of an afterthought at the time, and was questionable for a time to even make the team out of Spring Training. Since the start of the regular season, Quentin arguably has been the team's most valuable player with the bat.

He has a .273 average with 19 home runs and 61 RBIs, not to mention a .513 slugging percentage and .378 on-base percentage. He is a quiet but intense performer who has thrived in this change of scenery from Arizona.
Way to go, Carlos!

Carlos has changed his batting stance since the trade and is now has made the all-star game. I wonder if any of the Diamondback hitters could benefit from the White Sox hitting coach? Congrats Carlos!

ex-D-back property in the All-Star Game: Quentin, Uggla, Guillen if voted in as the final AL vote (not likely). Navarro was in the Randy Johnson trade of 2005, but did not officially enter the D-backs system.

Will Quentin get hit by a pitch in the All-Star Game? :)

Will D'backs brass realize that Bob Melvin and Rick Schu do not have the skill to develop superior prospective stars?

You guys need to take a step back and see that no one can ever predict how "prospects" will pan out in a trade. Sox fans like myself could have been kicking ourselves the way things went for Chris Young last year and are going for Ryan Sweeney with the A's this year. Trades are made for "prospects" like the Indians/Brewers today because with free agency there's no such thing as "next year" in professional sports any more.

Quentin was a #1 draft pick who hit at every level. The Diamondbacks were not patient with him and instead signed a journeyman to a 30 million dollar contract instead of having faith in Carlos. They are now paying the price and will have to trade more players to get another outfielder.
