He wouldn't have been a factor had he played, Delhomme basically stares down Steve Smith at this point.

More importantly, Daunte Rosario is out. All 4 of Jake's TD passes have been to TEs. He's been very uncomfortable throwing to receivers and has been off target with Smith.

With Smith as the only viable receiving threat, they are going to have to rely heavily on the run, which works to our advantage.

Steve Smith had 99 yards last week in the loss to Buffalo. So we need to really put the clamps on him. He's there best player that can open a game up.You can't let Smith beat you period.

I want our pass rush from last week except even more ramped up so Jake does'nt have time for nothin but eating ARIZONA grass.

Well I don't know if this is good or bad but the big tall wr in Muhammad is out for Sunday.

We'll also face a rookie CB.

A rookie Safety I think you mean.

As for Moose I think that hurts them more then some might think. He might not be a receiving threat anymore at his age but he is still by far their best down field blocker, still one of the best in the league. This will hurt their run game, at least as much as a blocking WR could effect a run game that is.

Great point. Moose has taken ADub out on a couple of blocks in past games.

Nope I meant a rookie cornerback in Captain Munnerlyn from South Carolina is a rookie and starting will also be playing tomorrow.I don't think this is his first start though.

Yes I saw that a rookie safety was gonna have to start too.It should be a very good day for Kurt to get into a groove.

Don't you mean a good day for Kurt to get "on track"?

When we played Colts, Jerraud Powers (a rookie) did fairly well vs. our team...

The only thing that scares me about these injuries to the opponent is that it gives the Cards a reason to let up. When they relax, bad things can happen.

As long as they stay focused and keep a "no mercy" mentality, we'll be alright. However sometimes I feel more confident when we're playing a better team.

Either that or they could see it as a chance to pad their stats for the Probowl voting that just opened up and for contract negotiations.

Panthers looking to rewrite a little history Sunday

Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald scores in the second quarter against the Panthers in January. Fitzgerald brutalized the Panthers secondary with eight receptions for 166 yards.

As Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis trudged out of Bank of America Stadium last January, a peculiar feeling churned inside of him.
Earlier that day, the Panthers thought they were ready for a divisional playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals, cruising into the postseason on the wings of a 12-4 record and an NFC South championship.
Three hours later, that had all vanished, thanks to a 33-13 thrashing from the Cardinals.
"Sick," Davis said earlier this week, recalling how he felt afterward. "Extremely sick."
Little, if anything, went right for the Panthers that day. Everything, it seemed, clicked for the Cardinals, who went on to play in the Super Bowl, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme threw five interceptions and fumbled once, the prelude to a slump he continues to fight deep into this season. Carolina's defense did little to stop Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, who passed for 220 yards and a touchdown. That score went to receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who brutalized the Panthers secondary with eight receptions for 166 yards.
The loss began a slide from which the Panthers have yet to recover. The Panthers (2-4) get another shot at the Cardinals (4-2) today, when they play in University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
"Whenever a team comes into your house and embarrasses you like that, you want to go back and play them better than you did the last time," said Davis.
The loss has haunted the Panthers, a team with what appeared to be legitimate Super Bowl aspirations last season. They haven't been able to shake it off, starting the season with three straight losses despite having 20 of 22 starters back.
"It probably makes me want to play even more," said Delhomme of facing the Cardinals again. "You want to go out and play them. By watching ... film, you learn by what we did decent and what we did not (do well) in the two times we played them last year."
The playoff victory helped the Cardinals turn a corner to unprecedented success for the franchise - an NFC championship game victory against the Philadelphia Eagles the following week, then the Super Bowl.
Until they beat the Panthers, Arizona had lost 17 of 19 games in the Eastern Time Zone. They won again on the East Coast last week, beating the New York Giants 24-17.
"Even last year, when we had good times and bad, I don't know if we ever believed we could go anywhere and play against anybody and beat anybody," Warner told reporters in Arizona this week. "I think that's what you've seen this year. Even though we haven't played great football all season long, you've seen us go on the road and win some games in tough environments."
That's what the Panthers will face today. The revenge factor is something that some players are relishing. Others caution against it.
"That's where we left off last year," said running back DeAngelo Williams. "To come back, to beat them and re-write something that hasn't been re-written in a long time, that would be awesome."
Said defensive end Julius Peppers: "Nobody should be thinking about anything that happened last year. That was last year. This is a new season. Right now we're just trying to get a win."

Carolina's No. 1-ranked pass defense faces stiff challenge ahead vs. Cardinals Written by Steve Reed Saturday, October 31, 2009 12:07 am

Stopping Larry Fitzgerald will be a priority for the Panthers on Sunday. (AP photo)

CHARLOTTE – While Jake Delhomme was raked over the coals for his performance in last year's NFC divisional playoff loss to Arizona, he wasn't the only one who had a rough day. The fact is Carolina’s pass defense was pretty pathetic, too.
Most Carolina fans can still remember the leggy Larry Fitzgerald galloping through the secondary, ripping off huge chunks of yardage.
Fitzgerald had six catches for 151 yards and a touchdown – and that was just in the first half -- as the Cardinals staked to a 27-7 lead and rolled to a shockingly easy 33-13 win over the Panthers.

After the game, coach John Fox and his defensive staff drew criticism for not putting Chris Gamble, the team’s top-flight cornerback (not to mention the guy the team had just given a $50 million contract extension to a few weeks before), exclusively on Fitzgerald. It seemed fairly logical, especially considering Arizona other star receiver Anquan Boldin was out with an injury.
Instead, the Panthers kept Gamble sequestered to the left side of the field and primarily stuck with a zone defense, which Kurt Warner chewed up and spit out for the second time in 2008 season.
The Cardinals simply ran Fitzgerald in motion and got him matched up on Ken Lucas, who was struggling at the time with his confidence, or the inexperienced Richard Marshall. The Panthers did nothing to adjust until it was too late.
Gamble said this past off-season he wishes the coaching staff had lined him up one-on-one against Fitzgerald and had him shadow him wherever he went on the field. Ironically, that was a strategy the Panthers used with Lucas in 2005 when he was in his prime and Gamble was playing on a bad ankle. That halftime move enabled the Panthers to shut down Fitzgerald and salvage a big win.
These days, Gamble is still politicking for a chance to play "man up" on Fitzgerald.
“Like I said last year, I want to get on Larry Fitzgerald,” Gamble said. “That’s their go-to guy, and I just want to compete with that guy. I know he’s one of the great receivers in the league, so I feel like I want to get my name out there and play my best against him.”
That said, it seems highly unlikely Fox will change his game plan.
He rarely does.
At the very least, Gamble would like to see the Panthers play more man-to-man this week on the Cardinals.
“I think we’ve just got to play a lot more man, get tight on them, and not play too much zone,” Gamble said. “They can just dump it off in the zone... I think last year we played more zone, so it hurt us. I think we should play more man, to get closer and compete with those guys.”
This year the Panthers rank first in the league against the pass, allowing just 149.7 yards per game.
But numbers can be misleading.
Carolina’s first three opponents found more success on the ground -- averaging nearly 190 yards per game on the ground -- and didn’t need to throw as much. And the last three quarterbacks the Panthers have faced were Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Johnson and Jason Campbell, not exactly guys who consistently light it up.
Also, while the Panthers aren’t giving up a lot of yards, they have surrendered seven passing touchdowns and have just three interceptions. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald's game hasn't declined. He ranks second in the NFC in receptions with 41 and has five touchdowns, although some would argue he still hasn’t hit his stride this season.
Marshall this week called him the best receiver he’s ever played against.
“He’s fast. He goes after the ball when the ball is in the air and he times his jump real well,” Marshall said. “You have to time your jump. If you don’t, it’s a catch all of the time. He’s so good that the quarterback will throw the ball whether you’re on him or not and he just goes up and gets it.”
The Cardinals should also have Boldin this week, as well as Steve Breaston, both of whom joined Fitzgerald in going over 1,000 yards receiving last year.
“It’s going to be real challenging for us,” Marshall said. “We have to come in and play our technique and don’t worry about what they do. If we play our technique and play hard and just compete, we’ll win our share and they will win their share. But we just have to win more than they win.”
In two games last year against the Panthers, Warner was stellar.
He completed more than 70 percent of his passes and threw for more than 600 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
The teams that have had success against Warner have gotten pressure on him, which is exactly what the Panthers hope to do.
Defensive end Julius Peppers said sacking Warner isn’t a necessity, but pressuring him to throw early is.
“We’ve got to try to affect him, get him off the spot,” Peppers said. “Try to get a little pressure on him and make him move his feet. That’s about the only thing you can do to a guy who gets the ball out pretty quick.”
But that won’t be easy.
Warner admitted this week the Cardinals are playing their best football right now.
“You just got to try to contain him the best you can,” outside linebacker Thomas Davis said of Warner. “They’re high-powered, they have a lot of great athletes over there, and their receivers are some of the best in the league. You see it, Kurt Warner’s doing a great job of getting them the ball, and their running game is picking up. Whenever you have a team that’s clicking on all cylinders offensively like they are, you know it’s going to be tough to stop them, so we’ve got a big challenge this game.”
And if the Cardinals aren't a big enough challenge for Carolina's top-ranked pass defense, then wait until they get a load of Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints next week.

Some responses to Gamble's comments on their message board... LOL

So you guys are actually supporting the thought that Chris Gamble...... Chris Gamble should be given the nod to cover Larry Fitzgerald in man to man coverage?

Now, i'm not going to slag him too bad in this thread. But we don't have ONE SINGLE defensive back that we could trust against ANY legit number one WR in this league. Not one. Just because Gamble is the best smelling turd among a group of other turds does not make him a legit shutdown cornerback.

Before he goes out calling for a one on one matchup with the best in the league, maybe he needs to make ONE frackin play against anybody. One big pass deflection, one big interception, one big forced fumble..... anything. Chris Gamble has had his thumb up his ass the entire year. Forgive me if this more simple zone defense is not making you look like a superstar, Gamble, but it's not our job to make you look good.

Dont forget guys, Gamble is legally ********.

yeah, the best receiver in the NFL can't beat man coverage. OK.

I love IT!!! Now I have even more to stoke me up for this game today.I'll relish this win today in the NEST MUCH MORE than I ever would have against a 2-4 team.

Now I know why they are 2-4.They even admitted it.The CARDINALS have broken this team into shambles and they even paid 60 million to the guy that helped them lose it all.Amazing...just simply amazing.

The lambs did the same thing with bulger. The highest paid lamb in franchise history and won't be on the team next year as they draft Locker the top ranked college qb to start for the team.

People are focused on favre and the wackers and we've got some great drama going on over here.I LOVE IT!!!!:DBring a great plan today coach Whiz.
