Carr misses second straight day of work
Written by Steve Reed

Carolina Panthers quarterback David Carr was held out of practice for a second straight day on Thursday.

Vinny Testaverde and Matt Moore split reps in practice. It's likely that if Carr does not play, Testaverde will start Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Also, running back Nick Goings and linebackers Dan Morgan and Adam Seward did not practice.

Cornerback Ken Lucas did return to practice on Thursday and is expected to play this week.

I am thinking that it only makes sense to keep him out of practice give Scrub and/or TestaGrampie the snaps in practice and rest the injured guy.

Carr was able to get treatment and play the 2nd half.

There is no significant injury...just pain. He will take a shot for the pain and play, IMO.

So, what do we chant for Vinnie when he comes into the stadium?

"Graaaaandpaaaaaaa?"

Or

"Med-I-Care! Med-I-Care"

"other?"

Anyone giving odds on which QB will survive the longest; Arizona's Warner or Carolina's Carr???

If Vinnie throws a TD, he will extend the following record;

"Consecutive Seasons with a Touchdown Pass (20) (NFL Record)"

I hope to see a heavy dose of an effective running game that will keep either QB off the field and behind in score.

I suspect that even if Carr is hurting up until Saturday night but feels he's ready to go on Sunday that he'll get the start.

A guy at work was saying that he was at the game the last time Testaverde came to town to face the Cardinals, (when???) somebody in the crowd was yelling something such as "Nice Fiesta Bowl, Vinnie!" :p

For those too young to remember :) Heisman winner Testaverde suffered four sacks and five interceptions vs. Penn State in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl.

Here's a great article about that game. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=fiesta87

"Excuse me," he said. "But didn't the Japanese lose the war?"

Gut Check

Let us not forget that we are the team that allowed Donovan McNabb to beat us despite only playing on one leg!

This game will be a gut check to determine whether we're the same-old/same old - or whether we can rise to the occasion and exploit the other team's apparent weakness and win a game we should be expected to win.

I have a feeling we will be saying this for a long, long time. Even when we win the gut check games. Just because it is going to be very hard for us to believe it is happening when it actually is.

Hell, we could be at the Super Bowl and say...man, this is really the game where I think we can say we've finally turned the corner if we win it. If not though, SOC.

Carr optimistic he'll be ready

Although he missed a second straight day of practice Thursday, quarterback David Carr sounded optimistic about his chances of playing Sunday at Arizona. Carr injured his back in Sunday's win at New Orleans and hasn't practiced since. But he did some light throwing on the sideline for the first time and was encouraged.

"I threw some balls today,'' Carr said. "It felt good, a little tight in the release, but I think it will definitely clear up by Sunday. It definitely feels better than it did Monday. We'll see if we can practice tomorrow.''

Crush em' and let them know that they can't win that way.

It'll be another blow if the Cards drop one to a team with two qb's out.

what are the odds that we face 2 teams in a row with their 1st string qb's down.

I guess 100%

regardless of who starts, we should kill this team. Carr sucks, we're at home, we have a QB who can actually handle the entire offense. Good teams crush in opportunities like this. I'm excited to see what we really are.

I'd also like to see the running game get going a bit - we've definitely been running Edge a ton, but the last couple games, his yards per rush has gone down to last season's level.

Can't wait to watch my first full game since the Seahags game!

Carr feels like if he doesn't practice Friday he may not start.

"You want to do something," Carr said. "You don't just want to walk in there on Sunday and try and do it. I have experience, but not that much. You have to get some reps with these guys. So I'm going to try to practice (Friday)."

Carr admitted one option the Panthers are considering is resting him this week before the bye.

That essentially would give him three weeks of no contact between games, allowing his back more time to heal.

"Yeah definitely and that has crossed our minds and we have talked about it with the trainers," Carr said. "I played last week with it and it was sore and we were on a lot of (medication), but it can go either way.

"I will know more tomorrow at this time. I threw some balls today but I didn't really practice. I didn't drop back and I didn't run. I will be able to tell you for sure after practice Friday."

When asked if he's hopeful about Carr practicing on Friday, coach John Fox said, "I was hopeful he was (ready to practice) today, but he's not. So we'll see how it goes tomorrow."

Just don't let Steve Smith get behind the secondary!
