Former Cathedral standout Xavier Booker has entered the transfer portal, per a report via The Athletic.

In two years at Michigan State, Booker never reached expectations attached to him being ranked the No. 1 prospect in the country while at Cathedral. That ranking — fair or not — was always weighted more toward potential than production. The 6-11 big man could run the floor with ease and had range to the 3-point arc.

This past season, he averaged 4.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game, playing 12.8 minutes a game. He went from a starter early in the season to a role player during Big Ten games, the 10th man in the conference tournament and then played just 3 minutes of mop-up time in the NCAA tournament opener against Bryant.

“Right now, I'm just trying to take it in, just take everything in and especially to cherish these last moments with the seniors,” Booker told the Detroit Free Press when asked about his future following MSU's Elite Eight loss. “It was a long year. We all built great bonds with each other throughout the whole year, so it definitely sucks to see everything end the way it did.

"You look back at it in a few days or a week from now and be proud of the overall picture and everything we had accomplished this year... It's sad to see it end, but we got more work to do over the summer.”

As a junior, Booker helped Cathedral win a Class 4A state championship and was named a McDonald's All American a year later. Booker picked the Spartans out of a final 10 schools that included IU, Purdue, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Gonzaga and Michigan.

“The NBA is my main goal,” Booker told IndyStar's Kyle Neddenriep in 2022. “I’m going to do what it takes to get there.”
