Former Brownsburg standout Kanon Catchings will enter the transfer portal, per multiple reports late Saturday night.
Catchings averaged 7.2 points a game as a freshman at BYU this past season.
A former Purdue recruit who left Brownsburg for Overtime Elite prior to his senior high school season and top-40 recruit in the 2024 class, Catchings signed with Purdue before asking for a release from his letter of intent in the summer.

"If something happened, it would be one thing — but nothing happened," Matt Painter said in June when Catchings departed. "It's just one of those deals where he was concerned about his role and just wanted out of his letter — and then kind of went back the next day and said everything was good.
"It just was like, this is probably better than we can kind of part ways if you're questioning things before things start."
Catchings committed to Purdue as a sophomore at Brownsburg and spent his senior season with Overtime Elite in Georgia. At the time of his Purdue exit, Catchings' mother, Tauja, told IndyStar her son was "looking for a program that can support his timeline" relative to the NBA. BYU coach Kevin Young most recently served as associate head coach of the Phoenix Suns. Tim Fanning, Catchings' coach with Overtime Elite, also is now a BYU assistant.
“Kanon’s goal when he committed to Purdue was just to play college basketball,” Tauja Catchings told IndyStar's Kyle Neddenriep. “His goal now is to play in the NBA. Purdue has been more of a traditional program, which I like. ... But I think Kanon was probably looking for a program that can support his timeline.”
This season, the 6-9 forward saw his playing time diminish significantly in February and March. He averaged 25 minutes a game through BYU's first 14 games but then averaged 12.3 minutes per in the next 15 games. He played a total of nine minutes in the Cougars' two NCAA tournament games this month.
BYU is bringing in the nation's No. 1 recruit, 6-9 AJ Dybantsa, next season.
"I think every freshman that comes in has those uncertain thoughts," Painter said over the summer. "But you know, you compete and earn your way into a role. I can't anoint a role to somebody out of thin air. You walk in, you compete.
"Zach Edey didn't have a role. Fletcher Loyer didn't have a role. They came in here and they earned what they got. And that's the way it is."
