here's my first version of what i think the Cards draft will look like:

1-Rolondo McClain: inside LB's fall in the draft. Ray Lewis did, Maualuga did, Laurinaitis did so why not McClain. Alternate pick if he gets taken where he should- Bryan Bulaga,OT: he's as mean as they come and is very talented to boot. Would be a great addition to the OL and be the LT for years. It's hard to tell how the 1st round OL will shake out but he's had a thyroid issue that may make him available to the Cards at 26.

2-Rickey Sapp, OLB, from Clemson. I think with his size, 6'4 246, and athleticism that , even though he's projected as pass rushing OLB, he could move into Dansby's role and thrive like KD did.

3-O'brien Schofield, OLB,from Wisconsin. This guy is fast and makes plays all over the place. He could eventually step in for Okeafor at 6'2 250.

4-Akwasi Owusu-Ansah:CB, small college CB with a hyphenated name. I like his potential. I obviously haven't seen him play but he has nice size/speed numbers and is a good kick returner.

5-Trevor Canfield:QB, i think the Cards take a developmental type QB and he could be the guy. Max Hall is another possibility.

6-Thaddeus Gibson, DE/OLB OSU, He has all the tools to be a great player but has only shown it in bits and pieces. Don't really understand why he declared but his potential is through the roof.

7- Walter McFadden:CB, he's been flying under the radar but had a nice bowl game. Was 2nd team all SEC.

If the Cards would decide to trade Boldin for a 2nd round pick, the guys i would look hard at that may fall due to injury or something else are:
Taylor Mayes-played hurt and is said to be falling out of round 1.
Jermaine Gresham-he's had knee issues so he may fall.
Chad Jones-S:he's a 2nd round pick but he was one of the more impressive players i saw last year. Every time i watched LSU he was all over the place making plays.

Awesome. I know most are sad that the season is over, and I am too, but I LOVE the whole draft process.

I'm sad it is over but at least my chest has stopped hurting...one more day and I'll be back in the saddle researching free agents and draft prospects.

'Tis the season.

I don't think McClain falls to us. The last ILB prospect as good as he is was Willis, and he went top 15. I'd love for it to happen, but I'm not seeing it.

Still, if we could get McClain, we jump at it. People crow about how good Dansby is, but he just isn't the ILB you need to run the best 3-4. Yes, I want to keep him, but we need the MONSTER ILB player. Look at what Willis does for the Neeners. THAT'S what we need out of one of our ILBs.

some thoughts:

round 1-- not to belabor the point, but Brandon Spikes, LB Florida would look really good in Cardinal Red.

Jerry Hughes of TCU is a favorite of mine as well.

Round 2-- I like the Gresham idea. While round 2 is a possibility, I dont know if #58 (or so) is. How about Dan Gronkowski, TE of Arizona. Had he been healthy this year, he would have challenged Gresham for the #1 TE on the board. A well rounded guy who can get downfield, but a very, very good blocker as well.

I like some things that I see. I wouldn't be surprised if Rolando's stock sky rockets. He's a special player.

Living in NC and being a South Carolina Gamecocks fan I've watched a lot of Sap (Clemson is or mortal enemy). I don't ever see him moving to the middle as he really is a classic rushend/OLB tweener. It would be like putting Bert Berry in the middle.

Speaking of my Gamecocks. Look out for Eric Norwood, kid broke John Abrahams records and would make a good OLB in our scheme.

I like Norwood and Sean Weatherspoon (could play inside or outside). Both would be good fits for us.

Cbus, there is no way Rolando falls to us. Sapp is a first rounder most likely. Gibson is a 3rd/4th rounder.

That is a very optimistic draft right there.

Hughes or Sapp are potential first round picks for us IMO.

Hard to do mocks because player rise and slide all the way up to the draft. I'll play, the basis for my mock is that we bring back everyone, to include Dansby with one of the tags. Easier that way.

Round #1 - OLB/DE Jerry Hughes - We need an elite pass rusher OC's need to alter their game plan for, Hughes fits the bill.

Round #2 - OT Ciron Black - Some say he'll slide but I take no chances, always the possibility someone takes him because they feel they can't get him later. SEC starter 4 years so he's battle tested.

Round #3 - CB Kyle Wilson - Great athlete who played extremely well for 13-0 BSU this year. Can also return kicks.

Round #4 - DE/OLB Jermaine Cunningham - With all the hype and attention going to Carlos Dunlap, he wrecked havoc on the other side. Critics say he works harder and has more heart than Dunlap.

Round #5 - ILB Micah Johnson - Solid MLB who had a great career at UK.

Round #6 - CB Devin Ross - Speedy CB who like Wilson can return kicks.

Round #7 - C Jim Cordle - Big guy would provide depth behind Sendlein and Claxton.

This is one guy who is completely off my draft board if I were the Cards. Fat, Lazy, slow, zero agility, no technique, plays with zero smarts, no footwork to speak of.

You mean Sean Canfield - QB out of Oregon State right?

As far as McClain dropping goes...it all depends on his 40 time. Willis went high because he ran fast, while Ray Lewis and Mauluga dropped because they ran slow. What I will say is that if he falls to the late teens the Cardinals would be stupid not to move up and grab him. He attacks the scrimmage in a way that great ILB'ers do. He hits hard and seems to have a good feel for the game. An impact guy right here.

My quick 4 round dream draft
1-Rolondo McClain ILB
2-Brandon Lang OLB
3-Kyle Wilson CB (not sure if he will be here)
4-Sean Canfield QB (not sure if he will be here after workouts)

A bit of a stretch for some of these guys but that is why it is a dream draft.

2)Aeneas Williams
3)Joe Montana
4)Kevin Greene
5)Mel Blount
6)Deacon Jones
7)Jethro Pugh

Well I would take that draft as well except all those guys are really old!

you know what I meant, but I bet a few could still play better than what we have.

I know Aeneas would be better than everyone except for DRC & give me a coked up LT could still maul his way past a offensive tackle.
