Chris Klein pleads guilty to drunk driving

VISTA, Calif. (AP) — "American Pie" star Chris Klein pleaded guilty Friday to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge, was fined $1,800 and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service.

San Diego County sheriff's deputies arrested the 26-year-old actor Feb. 5 in Encinitas. Authorities said he had a blood-alcohol content above 0.20, more than twice California's legal limit of 0.08.

Klein entered his plea in Vista Superior Court, his attorney Blair Berk said.

"Chris dealt with this very seriously and responsibly and he's pleased that it's been resolved," Berk said.

Klein was featured in the 1999 film "Election." He played the character of Chris "Oz" Ostreicher in 1999's "American Pie" and in the 2001 sequel.

He and actress Katie Holmes, 26, recently called off their engagement after dating for five years. Holmes is now dating 42-year-old actor Tom Cruise.

Aidan Quinn

Quinn Cops to DUI

April 2005
by Gina Serpe

Unfortunately for The Exonerated star Aidan Quinn, life doesn't always imitate art.

The veteran thesp pleaded guilty to drunken driving charges Thursday stemming from his DUI arrest a year and a half ago while on location in Maine.

Quinn, 46, wasn't required to--and didn't--show for court; lawyer Michaela Murphy entered the guilty plea on the actor's behalf. The reluctant admission came after several failed attempts at having evidence suppressed and the case thrown out.

The actor, whose credits include in the 1994 epic Legends of the Fall opposite Brad Pitt and Project Greenlight's ill-fated first effort, Stolen Summer, was ordered to pay a $500 fine and will have his driver's license suspended for 90 days.

Waterville police arrested the actor on Oct. 25, 2003, while he was in town filming the HBO movie Empire Falls. Officers said they noticed Quinn around 2 a.m. after his car ran a stop sign, exceeded the posted speed limit and drifted across lanes. A Breathalyzer test pegged his blood-alcohol level at 0.12, well above Maine's legal limit of 0.08.

For her part, Murphy insisted her client's driving was only "marginally incorrect" and didn't warrant Quinn being pulled over. She also claims he was targeted because of his celebrity.

District Attorney Evert Fowle disagreed.

"He's just a regular guy, this was a routine case," Fowle told the local Kennebec Journal. "The only remarkable thing about this case was how unremarkable it was."

Fowle says Quinn's license will be revoked in New Jersey, where he lives.

Oliver Stone

Oliver Stone Arrested on Drug, DUI Charges
Saturday May 28, 2005

Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone was arrested for investigation of drug possession and driving while intoxicated, police said Saturday.

Stone, 58, was arrested Friday night at a police checkpoint on Sunset Boulevard after showing signs of alcohol intoxication, police Sgt. John Edmundson said.

A search of his Mercedes turned up drugs, Edmundson said. He did not specify what kind.

Stone was released Saturday morning after posting $15,000 bail.

A message left Saturday with Stone's agent David Styne was not immediately returned.

In 1999, the filmmaker pleaded guilty to drug possession and no contest to driving under the influence and was ordered into a rehabilitation program.

Stone's films include the recent "Alexander," "JFK" (1991) and "Natural Born Killers" (1994). He won Academy Awards for directing in 1989 for "Born on the Fourth of July" and in 1986 for "Platoon," which also won the Oscar for best picture. He lives in Los Angeles.

Former American Idol Contestant Arrested

Hit talent show AMERICAN IDOL has been hit with yet another scandal, after a former contestant was arrested for drunk driving.

Just weeks after ousted contestant COREY CLARK claimed to have had a sexual relationship with show judge PAULA ABDUL, reports have emerged that season two finalist KIMBERLY CALDWELL was arrested for drunk driving after police pulled her over in her vehicle on 19 May (05) in Burbank, California.

Caldwell, 23, failed a sobriety test and was released after posting $5,000 (GBP2,631) bail, according to US WEEKLY. Officials have 30 days to file charges.

Caldwell's representative says, "Kimberly is consulting a lawyer and disputing the charges."

'Lost' Actress Rodriguez Released Early

By Associated Press
May 30, 2006

LOS ANGELES --

Actress Michelle Rodriguez was released from jail early, after serving less than a day of a 60-day jail sentence, authorities said Tuesday.

Rodriguez was sentenced for violating probation terms after her drunken driving arrest in Hawaii. She was released Thursday from a Los Angeles County jail due to overcrowding, authorities said.

The former star of ABC's "Lost" still must serve 30 days of community service and remain on probation until June 2009, a spokeswoman for the city attorney's office said.

"Our prosecutors are not happy about it, but that is the sad reality of our overcrowded jails," said spokeswoman Contessa Mankiewicz.

Calls to Rodriguez's attorney and publicist were not immediately returned Tuesday.

"Michelle's happy with the way things turned out," Rodriguez's friend, designer Anand John, told People magazine in a story posted Tuesday on its Web site. "She knows this wasn't a literal get-out-of-jail-free card. Michelle's taken responsibility for the past, and now she's ready to focus on her career."

The 27-year-old actress served five days in jail in Hawaii last month after pleading guilty to drunken driving. The Dec. 1 arrest in Honolulu violated the three-year probation term she was given in Los Angeles County in 2004 after pleading no contest to charges of hit-and-run, driving on a suspended license and drunken driving.

Rodriguez's "Lost" character, Ana Lucia, was killed off in an episode broadcast in early May. The show's producers have said the plot twist had nothing to do with her arrests.

What an absolute joke. She's really learned her lesson.

Mischa Barton Arrested in W. Hollywood
By ROBERT JABLON
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) —

Mischa Barton was arrested Thursday morning for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol and possessing marijuana after sheriff's deputies saw her car straddling two lanes of traffic.

The 21-year-old actress, who starred on Fox's teen drama "The O.C.," was driving on La Cienega Boulevard in West Hollywood when she was stopped at about 2:45 a.m., authorities said.

Deputies saw her vehicle straddling the lanes and failing to signal for a turn, according to a sheriff's press statement.

"During Ms. Barton's detention, it was determined that she was an unlicensed driver and was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage," the statement said.

Barton was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, possessing a controlled substance and possessing marijuana, according to a statement from sheriff's Sgt. John Hocking.

She spent about seven hours in the West Hollywood jail before being released on $10,000 bail. A court hearing was scheduled for Feb. 28.

Calls to her manager and publicist weren't immediately returned.

Her arrest was first reported by the Hollyscoop.com Web site.

Barton played Marissa Cooper on "The O.C." from 2003 to 2006, when her character died in a car crash.

In May, the actress was hospitalized for two hours after an antibiotic she was taking interacted badly with alcohol.

Ex-'Lost' star Michelle Rodriguez reports for 6-month jail term in California
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
LYNWOOD, Calif.

Former "Lost" star Michelle Rodriguez will be spending the holidays in jail.

Rodriguez reported to a Los Angeles County jail on Sunday to begin a six-month sentence for failing to complete community service and alcohol monitoring as part of her probation from a drunken driving incident, authorities said.

She was booked into the Century Regional Detention Facility just before 4 p.m., said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Aura Sierra. It's the same jail where Paris Hilton served much of her sentence earlier this year.

A call late Sunday night to a Rodriguez representative was not immediately returned.

Rodriguez received the jail time in October, after she admitted violating her probation by failing to provide proof of community service and by drinking alcohol while wearing a monitoring device.

A judge ordered Rodriguez to complete the community service and prohibited her from being granted early release before she had served 180 days.

Rodriguez was on three years probation after pleading no contest to hit-and-run, driving on a suspended licence and drunken driving in connection with two incidents in Hollywood in 2003.

She violated her probation when she was arrested in Hawaii on a drunken driving charge in 2005.

Rodriguez was ordered to spend 60 days in jail, but served less than a day because of overcrowding.

Besides her appearance on ABC's "Lost," Rodriguez was in the films "The Fast and The Furious," "Blue Crush" and "Girlfight."

Repeatedly drinking and driving with only a slap on the wrist each time.

It's about time someone locked her up for more than a day.

Ex-'Lost' star Rodriguez freed from jail
The Associated Press
Thu Jan 10, 2007

Former "Lost" star Michelle Rodriguez has found her way out of jail. Rodriguez was released from a Los Angeles County women's jail Wednesday after serving 18 days of a 180-day sentence for violating probation in a drunken driving case.

She was released early under a program that deals with jail overcrowding by allowing nonviolent female inmates to serve as little as 10 percent of their sentence.

The same thing happened two years ago when Rodriguez served just one day of a 60-day jail sentence for probation violation.

As many as 50 women a day are released early, sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

"She was treated the same way we do with all females because of the extent of overcrowding," he said.

Rodriguez was sentenced in October for failing to prove she had done community service and for drinking while wearing an alcohol monitoring device.

The judge who sentenced Rodriguez ordered that she serve the entire sentence. The judge was consulted about the early release but the Sheriff's Department had the final say when jail safety was involved, Whitmore said.

"The sheriff supports, obviously, the desire to have inmates serve their full sentence," but the county has only one women's jail and it is "bursting at the seams," Whitmore said.

Rodriguez was on probation after pleading no contest to drunken driving, hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license in connection with two Hollywood incidents in 2003.

While still on probation, she spent five days in a Hawaii jail in 2005 after pleading guilty to drunken driving there, which led to her one-day jail term in Los Angeles for probation violation.

Rodriguez appeared in one season of ABC's "Lost." Her film credits include "The Fast and The Furious," "Blue Crush" and "Girlfight."

Rebooting this with the latest DUI arrest by Klein.

Chris Klein

`American Pie' actor Klein arrested on DUI
(AP) – June 16, 2010

LOS ANGELES —
Actor Chris Klein was arrested early Wednesday on suspicion of drunken driving after he was spotted weaving across lanes on a Southern California highway, authorities said.

The 31-year-old "American Pie" star was pulled over while driving through Sherman Oaks on U.S. 101, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement. CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said Klein was booked and released on his own recognizance.

A request for comment was left with Klein's agent and his manager.

Klein was fined $1,800 and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service in 2005 after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge in north San Diego County.

Klein played the character of Chris "Oz" Ostreicher in 1999's "American Pie" and in the 2001 sequel. He was also featured in the 1999 film "Election."

Thomas Kinkade

Painter Thomas Kinkade arrested near Carmel on suspicion of DUI
June 16, 2010

The painter Thomas Kinkade, whose mass-produced landscapes have made him one of the most-collected artists in America, has been arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Kinkade, 52, was pulled over outside Carmel on Friday night because his 2006 Mercedes-Benz didn't have a front license plate, said California Highway Patrol Officer Robert Lehman.

The artist smelled of alcohol, Lehman said, and he was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test. Kinkade was released from jail the next day after posting bail.

His arrest came less than two weeks after one of his companies filed for bankruptcy protection. The Chapter 11 petition was filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in San Jose in the name of Kinkade's production company, Pacific Metro of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Joseph Gannascoli

"Sopranos" Actor Arrested for DUI
By JUAN DEJESUS
Jun 18, 2010

NBCNewYork

The DUI charge claims another Hollywood victim. Early Friday morning Tampa police arrested 51-year-old Joseph Gannascoli, best known for playing Vito Spatafore on the HBO show "The Sopranos", according to jail records.

The actor has posted $500 bond and is expected to be released From Hillsborough County Jail later today.

Gannascoli had made a special appearance Thursday evening at SoHo Cigar in Tampa. The actor was signing autographs for patrons that bought five or more Ciguine cigars.

According to Tampa Bay Online, an officer in Hyde Park spotted a 2010 Dodge that made a wide right turn from Howard Avenue onto Kennedy Boulevard at about 2:40 a.m., police said. The officer then claimed the vehicle drifted in its lane and crossed the lane marker.

After stopping the car, driven by Gannascoli, the officer said he could smell alcohol on the actor's breath and believed the East Rockaway resident had slurred speech and bloodshot, watery eyes, police said. He failed field sobriety tests.

Breath tests showed his blood-alcohol level at 0.111. Florida law presumes impairment with a blood-alcohol level of 0.08.
