The Boston Celtics entered their matchup against the Sacramento Kings on the second night of a back-to-back, looking to extend their five-game winning streak. While they secured their sixth consecutive victory, the win came with an injury to star forward Jayson Tatum.

Tatum landed awkwardly on Kings center Domantas Sabonis and was seen clutching his ankle in pain. He had to be helped off the court and did not return for the remainder of the game. Despite exiting early after playing just 26 minutes, the six-time All-Star still led all scorers with 25 points, while also contributing seven rebounds and eight assists.

The Celtics also got strong performances from Payton Pritchard, who provided 22 points, five rebounds, and two assists off the bench, and Kristaps Porzingis, who added 16 points, eight rebounds, and two assists in his return.

Boston managed to hold on for the win, but concerns remain regarding the severity of Tatum’s injury. After the game, it was reported that Tatum left the arena with no crutches, but was limping slightly (via Boston Globe writer Adam Himmelsbach).

On Tuesday, the Celtics officially announced Tatum is doubtful for Wednesday's game against the Phoenix Suns.

With Boston already locked into a playoff spot, the team will likely take a cautious approach in reintegrating Tatum ahead of their postseason run.

Now sitting at 53-19, the Celtics will shift their focus to Wednesday night’s matchup against the Phoenix Suns as they continue their push to overtake the Cleveland Cavaliers for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
