Champions League 2024/25 quarter-finals: Preview & predictions
The 2024/25 Champions League has reached the quarter-final stage and features some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Reigning champions Real Madrid are still in contention, while La Liga rivals Barcelona have also made it through to the last eight of the competition.
Read on as we preview the upcoming quarter-finals and predict who we think will make further progress.
Arsenal vs Real Madrid
Arsenal demolished PSV Eindhoven 9-3 on aggregate in the last-16 but will not find things as easy against Madrid.
The defending champions were pushed to the limit by fierce rivals Atletico Madrid in the previous round, ultimately making it through on penalties.
Madrid’s frontline of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo can produce moments of magic at any given moment. They are a good bet to go through.
Prediction: Real Madrid
Bayern Munich vs Inter Milan
Bayern Munich dispatched defending Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen 5-0 in the last-16 and are back to their best after an indifferent season last term.
Inter Milan got past Feyenoord in the previous round and are looking to go one better this year after finishing runners-up in 2022/23.
This is probably the most difficult tie to predict, but the Italians’ miserly defence could be the key to their progression.
Prediction: Inter Milan
Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund
Barcelona defeated Benfica to reach the quarter-finals and now face last year’s finalists Borussia Dortmund.
The German side limped past Lille in the last-16, coming from behind to win 2-1 in France after a stalemate in the first leg.
Barcelona’s attack will be too much for Dortmund, and they should comfortably take one step closer to their first Champions League win since 2015.
Prediction: Barcelona
Paris Saint-Germain vs Aston Villa
Paris Saint-Germain dominated Liverpool in the previous round but needed a penalty shoot-out to go through after an inspired display by goalkeeper Alisson.
Aston Villa defeated Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals and could cause PSG problems if they produce their best form.
Luis Enrique’s side are the favourites to go through, and it will be intriguing to see how Villa handle the pressure.
Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain
