I don't think the same could be said about OJ Simpson.

If anything, Simpson's image before his alleged crime was even better than Bryant's before his. That's part of what made it so shocking. Simpson was seen as a gregarious, all-purpose TV pitchman, and he had supporting comedic roles in a handful of movies (mainly the Naked Gun series).

Joe Mama, you have a point, but I still think you're wrong. :p The chances of Bryant being found legally not guilty but guilty in the court of public opinion are very, very remote. Most casual NBA fans declared Bryant not guilty the instant they heard about the incident. The trial isn't going to change their minds.

if the Suns didn't acquire him I certainly hope that you are right. The general public might see it that way. I'm not so sure the people that pay big money to go to the games do, but I'll let it go.

Well I won't. ;)

No team has as many "big money" fans as the Lakers. They didn't give a flip about Bryant's alleged crime. Of course there are some self-righteous rank-and-file fans who condemn Bryant merely for the adultery -- but those fans can't support the NBA at all without being hypocrites, so they don't really count.

LOL!

I don't even know how to respond to this, so I won't anymore. I'll just say this. I'll wait until the trial to see whether I think he did it or not. Right now I have no idea. My posts have nothing to do with whether he is actually guilty or not but how he looks in the public eye. Apparently you have trouble differentiating the two.

Come on now. You're so concerned with the "public eye", how many of the people that think he's innocent will be swayed? Are you taking into consideration the fact that in the "public eye" he's innocent? How much convincing do you think Laker and basketball fans need to be convinced he's guilty if the verdict is innocent?

If he's found not guilty, it will take an act of God to make people think he's guilty, a la OJ.

I think OJ's guilty! :D

Joke's aside, EVERYONE is saying Kobe will be found innocent. That has me worried. When the outcome of a criminal trial is supposedly thought to be "a done deal" or that "any sane person can see the defendant is innocent," that's when big surprises happen in court cases. Everyone is acting like Kobe is just going to walk. I will believe it when I see it. Never take a jury verdict for granted, I say! :(

you must not have been following my posts. I do distrust the justice system somewhat because I would not want 12 people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty deciding my fate, but I don't think that's sad at all. Frankly if I walked around and just picked out 12 random people in my community I could guarantee that four or five of them are idiots.

All the "smart ones" find ways out of jury duty.

Some don't look for a way out! They do the honorable thing and serve! I would have no problem with seving on a Jury.
