SD is gonna can this guy at years end.. He just isn't head coach material.. But he is a great OC.. What are the chances we would get him for OC?

One logical obstacle might be the Pittsburgh buddy system. Would bringing in Norv mean the end of Russ G in AZ? And would Wiz sign off on that?

Probably close to zero. He'd be a great hire for us but by the time we're smart enough to create the opening he'll be long gone. Hope I'm wrong.

It is high time for the FO to tell Whiz he has no choice but to sign off on it. I think even stubborn Whiz can see Grimm isn't cutting it anymore. I am 100% for bringing in Norv as an OC.

I'd add that I don't know if Norv Turner's offensive philosophy is compatible with what we've built on the offense to this point.

Detroit, on the other hand... Dang. If they can draft a running back that could play football good?

I'll bite. What in the world have we built on offense that we couldn't just toss aside for Turner?

Do you think he has any veto power if the Cards finish below .500?

Anything possible. If the Cardinals could convince Edgerrin James in his prime to play for them and get Peyton Manning interested enough to considered them in the offseason, hell Norv Turner could be the Cardinals next OC. The problem is getting the front office to get a real offensive tackle to help protect the QB.

He really isn't that great an OC. I could be a great OC running an offense with Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Alvin Harper, Moose Johnson, Michael Irvin, Jay Novacek, and an offensive line that Kevin Kolb would thrive behind.

Agree. People make it seem like he's the offensive version of Wade Phillips. It was more the talent than him. By that logic, Haley is the best OC ever for getting us to a SB, Warner had nothing to do with it...

Zero in my opinion, this FO never hires real high profile guys for OC/DC positions.

I wouldnt want Turner on the staff. We would run the risk him eventually being promoted to head coach, and I dont think I could handle that. Maybe if we made him promise to never accept a promotion.

The only way Turner would be considered is if he agreed to run Whiz's offense. Whiz is the HC and an offensive minded coach. You can't ask him to not run his system and still be in charge. Especially when his offense has taken you to a SB.

While I agree there are differences, Norv does prefer a vertical passing attack off of play action which is supported by a strong running game. Arizona's offensive pieces are actually pretty similar to San Diego's. Both teams prefer big OTs. Housler compares physically to Gates. Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd match San Diego's preferred tall, physical WR corp.

I doubt we will, but I think Norv would be a huge upgrade for this team, especially if they decide to invest in a young QB. Who knows, Michael Bidwill might force Whis to bring on an offensive coordinator with the teams offensive struggles.

I kind of agree, but we clearly don't have the running backs to run Norv's offense (which is predicated on the RB), and I have no faith that Whis is going to be willing to bring in someone who can/will replace him. I just don't think that Andre Roberts is compatible with Turner's offense, and it's too early to slot Michael Floyd into a starting job.

Yes, not a perfect fit but if we were inclinded to pursue Norv Turner (which I doubt we will) we do have geography and a close enough match in personnel and scheme to be an attractive option.

Report this morning that Norv would like to go back to his OC roots when/if he gets canned.

Translation. = I'm about to get fired and I am letting teams now know I will be available. Save a spot for me.

Lets go get him Cards.

it's incredibly sad that our 13th pick in the first round isn't ready to be a starter next season.

I want Andy Reid as our OC. For the most part he has been alright with finding QBs he can get the most out of, and he should be right at home with our OL :)

I think Andy gets another HC job either immediately or after a one year career-redeeming stint as an OC. I'd rather go for Turner who has had more than enough chances to fail as an HC and is not likely to get another.

true, I like Turner as well

Despite what I said, I don't think he's really failed as a Head Coach although the perception is certainly otherwise. I think he's a fairly average HC but if he had been paired with a supportive and effective front office he'd have done fine in Washington and San Diego. His brief stint in Oakland was doomed to failure but that's been a coaching graveyard for decades now. As an OC though, I think he's just what we need - has his own system and should be strong enough to hold his own with Whiz.
